Think about it. The blocking of Pirate Bay is about movies, music and games, but in the future we will be able to download or ''pirate'' just about anything from a Thorntons chocolate cake, to a Ferrari 458. Taking power & money away from the corporations that create these things.
They are thinking ahead and want to have control of the internet before the internet controls them. It will be great and revolutionary for us, but horrible for them.
I find it funny that corporations are unwilling to accept that capitalism, which led to their success, is a double edged blade, and can lead to their fall. The whole purpose of capitalism is survival of the fittest. These corporations are beginning to rig the scales to secure themselves a stronghold over various markets, and thus preventing us from reaching our full potential through technology, just because they think they have a right to make a profit.
Nobody has a "right" to make money. They need to adapt to changes within the marketplace or die of incompetence.

Re: Is THIS the Real Reason they Blocked Pirate Bay?
>die capitalism
And who will bring these machines to the market, the reduce the costs enough that the masses can benefit from them?
I hate it when you see all these lefties and commies complain about capitalism while their using a Mac, wearing brand clothes, drive advanced cars, take pictures of their 'conquests' fighting the man using brand named cameras, set up brand named tents to sleep in and in turn get in the way of the normal gentle hard working banker trying to earn some money to feed his kids, eat cheap food that probably in their eyes just appears out of nowhere. They'll also of course use their iPhone and Blackberry mobiles to tweet the latest bull that goes through their worthless mind.
But yeah, 3D printing is awesome and really, I wouldn't be shocked if you were right. These days whenever you encounter difficulty, you just go buy lobbyists and 6 fig lawyers to go to gov and get the law to favour you.Last edited by avupa2.01; 03-05-2012 at 06:05. -
Re: Is THIS the Real Reason they Blocked Pirate Bay?you would need an incredibly large bronze toner cart(Original post by Zyyz)
I want one so I can print out kim kardashian -
Re: Is THIS the Real Reason they Blocked Pirate Bay?So to print food, all I need is to go get the food and put it into my printer? Sounds easy enough.(Original post by el scampio)
You can put food into the printer if you want a cake or a pizza, then switch the injectors to run on metal to print a Ferrari or a robot for example. -

I see your reasoning but I don't think they're thinking ahead like that (to the point where many people have 3d printers), I think the recent controls have just sprung up along with the recent trend of giving control over what people do to companies eg. Sopa, pipa, that other one which was passed ages ago in England but hasn't been enforced yet etc(Original post by el scampio)

Re: Is THIS the Real Reason they Blocked Pirate Bay?Well you need to purchase a 3D printer, expensive albeit prices are coming down rapidly, I think £3,000 or something for one of the commercial models?(Original post by Henwin)

I imagine its operation is quite complex, but yes in essence, add chocolate, print 3D chocolate shapes.
This was in the newspaper quite a bit over the last few months. Parts for jet engines where being printed via a 3D printer using metal alloys.
I'm surprised that some people on this thread seem to think 3D printers are a joke? As I say recent progress has been in newspapers and on the tv news in the last few months especially, and it's not exactly a new technology. -
Re: Is THIS the Real Reason they Blocked Pirate Bay?
3D printers are not even close to that advanced. and while I believe that industries do need to adapt more to the internet and illegal downloads, profiting off of other peoples work is not "survival of the fittest". nobody has a right to make a profit, they do have a right to defend their property
I don't think piracy is always, or even mostly bad, and companies certainly need to find a way to adapt to it, because it is not going away. but condemning them for acting in their interests, because how is them trying to defend their ability to make money any worse then us defending our ability to get free stuff? -
Re: Is THIS the Real Reason they Blocked Pirate Bay?
people calling the op a troll are idiots
you can print food, it was recently in the news where you can get the machine that will print cakes and things, all you have to do is put the ingredients as the ink, go Google it.You probably can print cars too -
Re: Is THIS the Real Reason they Blocked Pirate Bay?Ye brb, going down to currys and getting a world state of the art, incredibly expensive high tech piece of new revolutionary machinery, so i can print some pringles. Thanks.(Original post by murpo)

I mean, the government wouldnt care unless so many people could access it right? So Currys must sell it! Off i go! -
Re: Is THIS the Real Reason they Blocked Pirate Bay?Idiot, I don't think it's even available on the market yet. It's NEW and still needs development. In a few years 3D printing will be taking off and you will be able to pirate things to print off, this has already been discussed in the news.(Original post by Tommyjw)

The government wouldnt take down TPB because of such reasons when the technology to effectively use it is not common in households. -
Re: Is THIS the Real Reason they Blocked Pirate Bay?3D printer 750$. They're going to be in most peoples homes within 1-2 years at the very max.(Original post by Tommyjw)

But yea, I don't think it's related either. I just find it funny how skeptical people are of this technology, it really won't be longer than a few years before we can print most things, and not just made from lego either
.
You're not allowed to link to torrent sites on TSR. Porn isn't illegal but you can't link to that either. The site has rules...(Original post by murpo)
Nothing illegal about that so ban me all you want, **** mods.Last edited by Ewan; 03-05-2012 at 14:43. -
Re: Is THIS the Real Reason they Blocked Pirate Bay?Well, no. You'd be able to print the metal parts to build a car, but then you'd have to take them down to a garage and get someone to put it all together.(Original post by murpo)

Then you'd also need separate 3D printers to do the electronics, the glass, the upholstery, and everything else that isn't metal. Considering each one at the moment would cost several thousand pounds, and that's before the cost of the "ink", it would probably be cheaper to simply go and buy a car.
