Lip piercing and a job?
I have wanted to get my lip pierced for a long time now, and have decided i'm going to do it on my final day at uni before I go home in 2 weeks (male), this will allow it to heal over the summer so I can take it out/change it when I come back next year.
I also NEED a job over the summer to save up for when I come back or I will be broke for the year. Will employers look down on me for having a piercing? it will be a double stud thing (not sure of the name) on the left side of my lip. I know someone who works at M&S and can get me an interview there...I have a feeling as soon as the interviewer sees the piercing he/she will instantly make up their mind not to hire me? fs
Edit: Getting negged for asking if a piercing is appropriate at work lol? some people on this site are patheticLast edited by theonelink; 05-05-2012 at 12:16. -

I'd laugh at how pathetic you look with it, then I'd tell you to gtfo, if I was a potential employer.
It does make you wonder how all the people who have piercings and tattoos managed to get their jobs, tbf. -

It's a ****ing little stud on the corner of my lip ffs... unproffessional lol? all I need is a job stacking shelves etc for the summer.(Original post by Algorithm69)
You'll look like an unprofessional, immature prat. I'd take one look at you and show you the door. So will most employers. No one wants to go into a shop and be confronted with staff with a load of **** stuck in their face. -
Re: Lip piercing and a job?Doesn't matter what part of the place you work, if you are seen by the public, the companies image is reflected in its staff; namely you. Any self-respecting employer would turn you away.(Original post by theonelink)

Re: Lip piercing and a job?You and two million others, most of whom won't be sporting facial piercings. Think about it.(Original post by theonelink)

I have to say, I'm really surprised at how judgemental people are on here. I think that if you really are desperate for a job, hold off on the piercing- I expect M&S are very 'one stud on each ear lobe only' employers and they'll want you to look a certain way. I recently got a lip piercing (vertical labret) and I'm prepared to take it out *sob* if I have a job interview in a place that I suspect will mind and judge me. Personally, I kind of wish that I'd got the septum piercing I wanted instead. That can be flipped up and hidden completely.
But yeah, if you're really desperate for your lip piercing and a job, you could ask your piercer if they'll pierce you with a clear retainer (if it's possible with the piercing you want). It won't be invisible but it will be more subtle than metal. You should probably ask about the piercing policy if you get an interview and make it clear you'll do whatever they ask of you regarding your piercing. It sucks but a job + money > a piercing. You can always get a piercing somewhere that isn't as visible as your face. Or you could try somewhere that's more lax than M+S. I've heard Sainsbury's don't care about piercings- well, as long as you don't work in the bakery department.

Re: Lip piercing and a job?Not really, I'm doing you a favour... If I don't tell you this now, you'll get your lip pierced and look like an idiot. You may do it anyway, but at least I've brought it to your attention.(Original post by theonelink)
