The January 2012 paper looked pretty difficult. Hopefully this is a good thing considering it was the last paper produced by the exam board!

It will be don't worry I hope they don't throw in some mean question related to players - I will be screwed! Energy security and bridging the development gap as my main ones and then looked over tech fix..taken a bit of a gamble tbh, yikes!
This is a long shot (just by looking at ephipps) - you aren't by any chance hoping to go to Durham (St Cuths) - its just I met a girl on the open day with the same initials - talked about BSES? (apologies if not - I will look a fool!). Hope your exams go well!
Aha yeah it is me! Yeah if its players I will genuinely cry my eyes out don't know anything on them! Jan 2012 as ridic hard so hopefully this one will be better. Im doing biodiversity and energy and looked at superpowers! Good luck too

hi does anyone know how cyclones and the tectonic activity decreases water insecurity and how are u going to struture the question on the physical reasons for water insecurity?
    i was thinking:

    1. moonsoons being un reliable in some regions and highly seasonal for example India recently gained its moonsoons 10 days late
    2. lead this in to how 2 billion people rely on the snow on himalays and how global warming in the short term is incresaing levels of water but in the long term will cause water insecurity as the snow will dissapear leaving the 2 billion without water when not in moonsoon seasons
    3. then gonna lead this into how global warming is increasing el nino and la nina effects which cause flooding in parts which causes soil erosion causing water to become contaimentaimented and then droughts else where
    4. Typhoons and exsplain how it is by the equator so gains average temps of 35 degrees pluss with little rain, typhoons then cause drastic flooding bla bla
    5. the tectonic activity such as the Pinnatubo volcanoe in the Phillipense causes mass amounts of volcanic ash to travel up into the atmopshere that spreads into the water systems contaimenting it.

then i was gonna conclude stating how global warming and its effect illistrates the inequalities and injustices around the world as it poor nations such as Burma that least contribute to global warming but are most affected

Good points, but I was just thinking, is climate change not more of a human factor than physical? Caused by human greenhouse gases etc..

I'm not sure though. What do you reckon?

How would people answer the questions ... how is the Himalayan region working to combat their water insecurity?

And ... who are the players and what are their roles?

It is generally believed that climate change is naturally occurring, due to the greenhouse effect - so yes it does come into physical. The enhanced greenhouse is largely thought to be directly related to human activity - causing a further increase in the rate of climate change.

Hope this helps (and is correct!)

What would a response be to 'Evaluate the sustainability of the 3 water management schemes'?

Instead of going through edexcel, type in on google 'contested planet jan 2012 mark scheme'. Should be a link in the first 2

I'm doing biodiversity, superpowers and energy.

Not so keen on superpowers though. I don't know anyone else who is doing biodiversity, maybe I will get extra marks for being unique

hasn't it got something to do with the fact that its making the glaciers melt faster, and they rely on this for water supply?
