Re: Just got assaulted and can't stop replaying itI tend to hate them all but the GMP are actually harsher than most police forces in the country, in my opinion at least. Maybe the courts aren't harsh enough but the dibble out on the streets do a decent enough job.(Original post by Billton)
I don't know. My Aunt and Uncle are police officers (well, my Uncle is retired now) but they sort of kept tabs on it. To be honest, after everything, I just wanted to forget about it. It still knocks me sick and I have flashbacks but there's not much you can do really.
Just goes to show what is wrong with the police. I used to get in a lot of trouble with the police, and it never went further than a "telling off". Maybe that's why there is so much crime, especially in Manchester. BIG generalisation, but maybe if the police were a lot harsher, then the streets would be a lot cleaner.
But that's just my opinion
The crime problem in Manchester stems more from the fact that people tend to sort their differences out without using the intervention of the law. -
Re: Just got assaulted and can't stop replaying it
Wow, thanks. I was expecting to be called a pussy, not get some good advice and start a debate about the legal system. I can't really report it, but I'm gonna train twice as hard at kickboxing as I did before, and just hope I never have to use it. Thanks

Re: Just got assaulted and can't stop replaying itNo not at all, rather the opposite if you read my post.(Original post by sangston)
so you're essentially condoning attacking others?
and just because you suffer, somebody else has to?
I'm saying with time the flashbacks and replays of the whole event disappear
I'd never condone retaliation or revenge, whats done is done leave the rest to the authorities... -

I disagree. That's just some proud bull****. If you know there's no way you can win you may as well not try because you'll get yourself into worse trouble.
In that case why are you living if you're going to die anyway? -
Re: Just got assaulted and can't stop replaying itBecause you can accomplish things while you live... I get that you're all fatalistic and into dying for honour, but understand that other people have reasons for living.(Original post by DDS)

Re: Just got assaulted and can't stop replaying itIs it possible for you to take some other route for a while? If not, then ask your friends to accompany you and don't walk alone, for a while, in that area. It is better to be in a group then to be all alone as they might target you again...(Original post by KnapAttackUK)
Basically, yesterday when I was walking home from school with 2 friends, someone stopped us and demanded a password. We ignored him and kept walking. Next thing I know, I've been spun around and punched in the face enough to draw a lot of blood. Neither of my friends helped, and there was two off them, so I ran off :/
Now I can't stop freaking out about "what ifs", like if they knocked me down or if I'd hit them back. The worst thing is I walk past that road every day, and they'll recognise me.
What do I do, or what should I have done? -
Re: Just got assaulted and can't stop replaying itI don't understand. Why would I just throw my life away for some stupid fight?(Original post by DDS)

Re: Just got assaulted and can't stop replaying it
From personal experience it takes time. I was mugged by 2 people who threatened to kill me. I kept replaying the incident in my head until I realised that there was nothing else I could've done to get away from them. On the bright side, they were to thick to take my phone, and only made off with an oyster card and £10, and I later recovered the oyster card.
You didn't do anything wrong, and to be frank, there was nothing more you could've done.Last edited by ThatPerson; 04-05-2012 at 12:00. -

Re: Just got assaulted and can't stop replaying it
When I was younger on my way home from school I was grabbed from behind by a jogger (think one arm over my chest the other through my legs) who demanded how old I was. I screamed and he let me go and I sprinted home faster than I'd ever ran before, however I was traumatized for a good few months afterwards thinking about what if he didn't let me go/what if he had a knife etc, and got quite jumpy when out after dark.
It's a pretty normal response to keep replaying something like you experienced, but you'll forget about it over time. The best advice I can give it to try not to dwell on it too much and let it get in the way of your life, in a sense you are lucky that nothing worse happened, and there was nothing more you could have done in that situation, so leave it at that. -
Re: Just got assaulted and can't stop replaying itwho says i have not already found you(Original post by Billton)

Re: Just got assaulted and can't stop replaying itYour "mates" are a ****ing bunch of cowards! I hope you've ditched them. And seriously next time, just fight back. You have nothing to lose and even if you only landed 1 solid punch to one of their faces it would be better than the situation now.(Original post by KnapAttackUK)
Wow, thanks for all the advice. I already do kickboxing and I can throw a decent punch, but with 2 of them squaring up to me and a couple of them behind them, I didn't dare. Especially since my "mates" had already legged it. And I have no idea who they were, and they had hoodys on so I couldn't see. I don't think "chavvy and arrogant" is enough for the police.
But thanks for the advice
Cause now, they've essentially beaten you up and received no injuries in return. You should of fought back because at least then, they'll know that in order to take you down they would have to endure a negative consequence. -
Re: Just got assaulted and can't stop replaying itAre you ****ing kidding me?!!!(Original post by Dragonfly07)

So if a group of youths with knives surrounded you, you'd just give up? Considering you're going to die anyway, why bother trying?
And I know what your reply would be. You'll mention how its very different if you know the attackers are trying to kill you. But guess what? It isn't.
If people are trying to beat you up you won't know how far or to which extent they're willing to reach. Surely its better knowing at least you tried to do something instead of laying there like a dead fish.
Defeatist attitudes like yours are so pathetic. -

Fighting is primal. I would lose no respect for myself knowing I just "lay there like a dead fish" because I would know it was strategic, not instinctive.
Why would a group of youths just approach you and beat you up? If it's to take your wallet, would you stubbornly hold on to it or give it to them and then later report them to the police? What about if it was for a pure display of power? In that case surely the thrill is somewhat less if you don't fight back.
If you see my attitude as "defeatist" then I'm sorry but I think your own attitude stems purely from testosterone driven pride.
