Re: Mental Health Support Society MKVIIGlad you had a good day(Original post by Squaresquirrel)
This thread moves far to fast for anyone to humanely follow lol. Anyway I had a very good birthday despite some people not showing up, which usually would of triggered me but I was in far too good a mood for anything to bother me
Belated birthday wishes!

So, I have to leave for work in 3 hours
It's going to be a long day.
You're not an idiot at all(Original post by d123)
I'm trying to calm myself down. I might read for a bit and then try and sleep.
Urgh, I'm such an idiot. Idiot, idiot, idiot.
I hope you managed to get some sleep.

Re: Mental Health Support Society MKVIIMy nails are not long, with the job I do its best to keep them short, but it doesn't stop me painting them pretty colours. I like really brightly coloured nail varnishs but I am too worried about what other people think to wear some of the colours I have on my finger nails, but I paint my toe nails those colours just to make me happy.(Original post by Sultana)
Virgin are indeed a bunch of idiots (tried to charge us £3000 for a phone line we already have
fools!) Well done on the distractions thats great
, you should be really happy. I want to grow my nails and paint them pretty colours too!
No veggie option?!(Original post by bullettheory)
Well they said you could have vegan, but you won't be eating much... Most nights they didn't even cook a veggie option, so I would dread to think what the vegan diet would of been like
Thank you, the vegan thing is quite new, and you get used to no cheese after a while

It annoys me when there is no veggie option, there are loads of us out there, its not just some crazy idea a few people with MH issues have dreamed up (which was the way I was made to feel on my hospital stay) and a lot of meat eaters will eat a veggie meal, so why not at least give people a choice. -

I need some summer reading suggestions to keep myself distracted from my thoughts. Can anyone suggest a good book (preferably with a happy ending)!

Yeah they "forgot" to make it. It's not too hard, they just had to look at the catering sheet and next to my name was "VEGETARIAN", so it's not like they could forget but nevermind.(Original post by Wheek)

Exactly, there are quite a few veggies out there now. And I don't know when they will learn but a vegetarian option cannot include fish, chicken (veggie option at a conference went to was chicken...) or gelatine... It's rediculous!!!

Re: Mental Health Support Society MKVIIWhen I was in hospital one of the women required halal meat. The catering company the hospital used didn't do any veg or halal/kosher options so they used to bring her in a takeaway from the local kebab shop everyday!(Original post by bullettheory)

Re: Mental Health Support Society MKVIIYou could question their attitude but somebody's "attitude" is often inextricably tied to their condition.(Original post by Idle)
Well yes obviously some people are not going to get much out of X or Y. However there is not just one type of professional help, you have counselling, psychotherapy, CBT, DBT, outpatients appointments, booklets on self help etc.. Obviously in some people this will be alongside medication, for others not. I am not saying for everyone but if none of it is helping it would lead me to question the attitude of the person. I used to get nothing out of it, mainly because I walked in expecting to get nothing out. -
Re: Mental Health Support Society MKVII
Hey everyone. I haven't posted here in a while, as I've been feeling a bit off. Even though nothing new has actually happened, it's all been a bit tiring, so...yeah. I might post how I've been feeling properly later on today, when I've got some stuff done first.
Hope everyone is feeling well. -

Re: Mental Health Support Society MKVIISo I've been job hunting and just came across a role as a support worker with my local crisis team whom I'm with. I wonder how they would react if I applied. Well I'd probably have the best experience compared to the other candidates

Re: Mental Health Support Society MKVIII agree with bullettheory, you could try looking over your CBT book as CBT focuses more on changing flawed thinking rather than simply talking over what's bothering you.(Original post by CherryCherryBoomBoom)
Oh OK. But I already talk a lot about my problems with people on the internet, so is it like the same sort of thing then?
So instead of counselling, would any other types of therapy be better for active solutions?
I do have certain things that have been troubling me for years and I've been having a hard time getting over them, so I'm not sure if time is totally gonna heal them or not.
Another thing you might consider is some kind of group - I was recently offered a self esteem group, but in the past I've also done mindfulness, but there are loads of different ones. A lot depends obviously on what the problem is but some groups might be useful for you. You could try looking at your local mind, they run courses such as badminton or art classes for filling your time but they also do various group therapies that you just need to call up to get a place on. I had a look at the list of groups and courses for your area and they have a lot of different ones (however, most have already started, so you would probably have to wait until the next round (end of august) to start from the beginning).
It seems really odd that they wouldn't be willing to help you if they did think you have depression - usually even the worst doctors would offer some level of help even if it's just chucking antidepressants at you. Perhaps you're right, maybe they don't think you're depressed, have you thought about seeing another doctor?(Original post by CherryCherryBoomBoom)
The same sort of thing happened 2 years ago as well. I'm not sure if the GPs just don't think I have depression or something
. I might try contacting them again but I get to nervous to do this.

Re: Mental Health Support Society MKVIIGonna sound really pretentious here but who the hell cares(Original post by sunfowers01)

Read Crime and Punishment.
It was the last book I managed to read before depression destroyed my brain, and it was incredible. Didn't have a particularly happy ending but it was really engaging, I read the whole thing over a few days as I couldn't put it down.
