Re: is the minimum maintenance loan enough to live on at university
It depends... are your mum and dad going to give you any money? I get just the minimum loan for living costs, which is around £900 for the year - not a huge amount (but I apply for my loans using SAAS cos I'm a Scottish student studying in England, don't know if that affects it or not...). I think you would probably struggle if that is going to be your only source of income, assuming you're not going to be living at home while you go to uni.
Have you tried ringing up the student loan's company and chatting to one of their advisers? If you're not able to get one type of proof of your family's income maybe there's a substitute that you could use instead? Be prepared for them to be a little difficult - personally I've never had any trouble with the SLC but then again I've never had to ring them up to sort anything out, and I've heard lots of horror stories from my friends. But I think it's really worth pestering them so you can get this sorted out - the support is there to be used and if you're entitled to it you should get it!
