No... the cabinet is not representative of the 650 MP's in the Commons.
He said MPs in government, not MPs in Parliament though.

It's just an indication. I know it's not going to be all of them. I'm just saying quite a few of them are fairly wealthy.

Ahh. the Daily Mail strikes again

There may be a cabinet of millionaires, but the majority of MPs will not be millionaires. The majority of them will come from very comfortable, probably upper-middle-class backgrounds, but the standard back bench MP will not be a millionaire.
Yes, i completely agree the majorty of MPs will be fairly well off. None of them are going to be dirt poor.

Fair enough, but I still doubt most are millionaires. Will probably be when they finish their career as an MP and become a lobbyist or something though.

Not a surprise given Gordon Brown's standing in economics (contrary to popular belief).

But that's nothing compared to what Tony Blair is raking in, not only is he getting insane amounts by virtually running governments in the Middle East e.g. Kuwait, he's also being hired by hedge funds and being paid millions (literally) for just doing a speech on projects to their clients.

The reason why MP's in his position of power are giving so much is to influence them into taking certain decisions, I think this is wrong on one hand and that MP's should have 1 job and 1 job only, it's a bloody joke sometimes, I think that if you are a serving member of the House of Commons you should all live in a made for your use house for your term of service and any of your other belongings are seized by the state untill voted out, any extra money should be confiscated as MPs need to be as uncorrupt as possible.

Any meetings that were seen as unnecessary should be taken out from their pocket, MPs do not need a 5* luxurious hotel to stay in, sure have some comfort but I am sure a less luxurious meeting room is needed unless addressing other members of the international governing body.

well it would be impossible for them to be dirt poor, they get a basic £60k pay packet, around 3x the national average, plus expenses. Even more for additional roles held. But you do get MPs like Dennis Skinner who was actually a miner for 20 years.

What's the big problem? He didn't rob someone at gunpoint, and he didn't embezzle money from the government.

    Well done to him.

The amount of money he is making will anger people, and I've never understood this. Why do people get so enraged by other people's high salaries?

eh if as suggested those examples occurred over a period of a couple of months, that's about what one talk a week? One morning/afternoon a week talking at a conference is hardly a huge chunk out of the time available for his usual duties as a local MP.

He may as well cash in, like anyone would say no to offers to talk for that sort of money.

I can see why he's paid so much. Business and political leaders will very rarely get insight into such incompetence and arrogance at the very top. He's almost the perfect model of how not to run a country.
    ^^

    What a joke.

OP you've completely messed this up! These are the figures people pay to not have to sit through 5 hours of Gordon!

Seriously though why would you pay this? He was utterly useless as a PM and he's hardly the charismatic type. Ah well, at least it gives Ed hope for when labour finally wake up and drop him

While we're paying his MP's salary and he's only turned up to the house of commons twice since the election.

Labour are disgraceful with their hypocrisy, from Brown to Livingstone. Miliband is also against funds for access, but Labour are now offering a similar package just for less money: http://www.labour.org.uk/thousand_club
