What AS did you drop? What as grades did you get?
Hi,
I'm starting to think about what AS i want to drop next year, although won't make a final decision into my results are in. I have looked at the uni's websites ( am particularly interested in applying to London, Bristol, Nottingham and Liverpool) and none of them really specify a third subject but i know they're likely to have preferences. I will obviously be keeping chemistry and biology, so will be either physics or history that goes ?
was just wondering mainly for people that have offers this year
. What subjects did you apply with
.what results did you send off on your ucas form( A.s summer results)
.where have you been succesful
And any other bits of tips/advice
Thankyouu x

Re: What AS did you drop? What as grades did you get?
I applied with Biology, Chemistry and Maths
I had Biology: AAB Chemistry: AAB Maths: AAB History: DD Critical Thinking: AC.
They weren't particularly brilliant but they got me three interviews and an offer from Bristol! I didn't retake any modules in January though I am now retaking a low A in maths and the B in chemistry from last year to try and 'cushion' my summer results

Re: What AS did you drop? What as grades did you get?
I have got two offers for medicine; one at Newcastle and one at Leicester.
I got AAAA at AS level and decided to drop History and keep Chem, Bio and Maths. I decided to drop History because there was a big coursework clash with Chemistry
I asked at all the Uni's if they had any 3rd subject preferences and they said they didn't
My friend has got an offer from Nottingham to do Veterinary and she dropped physics to do Bio, Chem and English.
Hope that helps xxxx -
Re: What AS did you drop? What as grades did you get?I applied doing Biology, Chemistry and Maths A level, having done critical thinking and german at AS. I sent off my ucas form with AAAAB (b in chemistry) but predicted AAA and got offers from RVC, Liverpool and Glasgow.(Original post by Moo_1495)

Basically Biology and Chemistry are a must and Maths/Physics is necessary for Cambridge and preferred by Glasgow but for the other universities you can do any other academic subject (I think!), discounting gen. studies and critical thinking as the 4th AS. I would advise you to do other subjects at AS that you are good at and enjoy - you will be doing the subject basically everyday!
Good luck!!! -
Re: What AS did you drop? What as grades did you get?
I applied with ABBC at AS in biology, Eng lang&lit, physics and chemistry respectively. I dropped physics because I hated it and knew the workload would affect my bio and chem grades (It was so flukey that I scraped that B) and also I enjoy English and have always found it my strongest subject.
I applied for Liverpool, Edinburgh, Nottingham Gateway and RVC Gateway. I was interviewed by Edinburgh (Shocker!) and RVC with an offer from RVC.
Liverpool is very lenient on subjects, but are obviously very strict on work experience. Edinburgh have a list of acceptable academic subjects on their website ( http://www.ed.ac.uk/studying/undergr...ments/subjects ). RVC simple says: "The third A2 subject should not overlap with Biology or Chemistry, and can not be General Studies." Nottingham seemed quite lenient on the third subject also.
I agree with what bertiejess said; it's your biology and chemistry grades that are most important, make sure your third subject isn't going to take up too much of your time, and if possible enjoy it. Something different at A2 is potentially something to discuss at interview. -
Re: What AS did you drop? What as grades did you get?
I applied with AAAAB in AS Bio, Chem, Physics, French and Critical Thinking.
Evidently critical thinking is a bit of a doss so I dropped that, and also dropped French so I did 3 sciences for A level. Got a Bristol offer and now I'm here! I got A*AB in the end, my offer was AAB although it may have gone up now a that was a couple of years ago.
Good luck!! -
Re: What AS did you drop? What as grades did you get?
I took Maths, Physics, Biology and Chemistry and then dropped Maths after year twelve. I applied with AABB and a b in extended project at AS to Nottingham, Liverpool, Bristol and RVC.
Grade permitting, I'm hopefully going to Nottingham in September on the regular 5 year course :-)Last edited by Vetapplicant.z; 11-05-2012 at 20:46.
