How do some people work out 5/6 days a week?
Hey
I started training a few months ago
I would love the abilty to work out like 5/6 days a week, but im just too sore for 2/3 days after each muscle group
How do those people who work out so many times a week, do it?
single muscles and do no coumpound exercise, or helper muscles on close days? -

Its not necessarily better depending on other lifestyle issues (sleep, stress, food... general ability to recover).
But for some individuals it is possible.
Oh and steroids help for the super hardcore trainee's. -
Re: How do some people work out 5/6 days a week?so bascally unless your on steroids, and you train with this frequency, you will be overtraining(Original post by redbuthotter)

Re: How do some people work out 5/6 days a week?No steroids only if you lift twice a day to max every day.(Original post by Paladin of Derp)

Depends how you're doing ur sessions and what you train for.
Its possible for a normal gym goer to lift 4-6 times a week depending on how they train.
Literally just depends on what you're doing and why. I would train 6 times a week if I had time. -

Personally I train 5-7 days per week and when in uni or on days off from placement will train twice or three times in a day. (FYI I don't take steroids.)
My training is pretty fluid but I will always have at least 4 'core' lifting sessions (movement based split: bench day, deadlift day, squat day, press day) 3 conditioning sessions (sprints, hill sprints, intervals) and 2 mobility days (I do mobility stuff most days but have 2 sessions per week where I focus on it and do a proper routine. I take days off when I feel I need them or when I have to. I also deload every 4 weeks.
Ignore the people on the internet who go ZOMG OVERTRAININGZZZ!!!! whenever they see a program that suggests anything more than 3x fullbody sessions (consisting of no more than a couple exercises) per week. For beginners this holds true, to a certain extent, particularly those who never really played sports etc. Work capacity can be trained too, so as long as you build up slowly, eat and sleep enough you can train far more than you think.
People often get confused between overtraining and overreaching. Overtraining is a chronic condition that takes months to develop and months to recover from. It is very hard to get into an overtrained state. Overreaching is far more common but can usually be overcome by backing off a little every once in a while (hence why I have monthly lifting deloads).
The bottom line is the more you train the more you progress- so long as your body can recover from the aforementioned training. Once you get out of the noob stage (i.e when you can squat 3 plates for a few reps and benching 2 plates is no longer a distant fantasy) experiment with ramping up the frequency and adding in some variety, but not at the expense of your core lifts and training. -
