Don't worry about it. I didn't buy too many books (one each for commercial, crime, contract), but then I only got like 63% (low 2.1). My buddy who got a pretty strong first didn't buy any.

We both decided that having books at home makes it too easy to think "oh, I'll just waltz home to my flat and study," and then get sucked into hollyoaks and ring of fire. Far better to admit to yourself that you're not going to do any work at all at home, so you guilt yourself into spending time in the law library while you're on campus. Also it means you get a firm separation of work and play- nothing is worse than feeling like you're missing out on house japes by being chained to your desk, while you're not really concentrating on work anyway.

The library will have copies of all the books, and it only gets tricky to use them around exam time (when you'll be using your notes to revise anyway, if you've been doing them properly).

Final thought- all these books can be bought from people in the year above.

You'll be fine! Law isn't nearly as hard or scary as it has a reputation for, and people who pretend it is super hard work are being overly dramatic. Just remember to have an awesome time while you're studying- your situation sounds so exciting, it'd be a shame to waste it all on a first where you've only seen the inside of a library.
