I would like to know who the HELL voted for the Tories?!
Scotland needs to become independent. -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?although I wholeheartedly agree with you, the conservatives are letting us down slightly from what I expected, however the deficit reduction plan has gone rather well(Original post by Davij038)
I think the real reason why people vote labour is an inability to see the bigger picture or the greater good as it were.
Labour is too concerned with helping minorities than helping the people who are pushing Britain forward. -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour? If you mean who the hell voted for the Tories in Scotland, then virtually nobody. I take it your one of those SNP nutters?(Original post by OrangeUK)

I would rather be free from the UK so we can actually have our own say on a lot more things instead of being forced to be stuck under the rule of people like the Tories, when like you say, virtually nobody in Scotland ever even votes for them. -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?I'm not a Torie! Though I'm loathe to admit it, i'll probably be voting ukip- which is a bit like cutting off a diseased limb in that its for the best but still not the most favourable option.(Original post by pshewitt1)

Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?no we definitely need more representation in terms of political ideologies... what I would give for an economically post Keynesian approach... or slightly more libertarian party or a party that wishes to reform the government to a more democratic state such as Switzerland(Original post by Davij038)

Re: What motivates people to vote Labour? To be fair your being governed by the SNP, the Tories just take care of foreign policy basically.(Original post by OrangeUK)

EDIT: And in this particular case, i'm not entirely sure that is a bad thing.. -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour? You might be slightly surprised by the percentages. In the last general election the Tories got 16.7% of the Scottish vote - only just behind the Lib Dems and SNP who both got under 20%. The problem for the Tories is that their voters are quite spread out in Scotland, so they only got 1 seat whereas the Lib Dems got 11 seats on 18.9%.(Original post by OrangeUK)

Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?
Just watched a program on the beeb "young, bright and right" about all the conservatives at cambridge, all of their little port parties and commitee's for providing the cheese to their weekly meets. Honestly I could never vote for something like that. Stop being so stuck up your own ass and think if you are going into politics remember that you are serving the people, thus do what is best for the majority not your own little minority. Hence why they don't like proportional representation. To get the economy moving we need working and middle class spending, so squeezing them isn't the answer.
The liberals have lost any respect I had for them after they went back on one of the largest promises they made. They garunteed (sp) they would not raise fee's and then as soon as it was suggested by the torries they agreed, didn't put up any fight atall. Betraying completely the voters.
Green party, f'off I'm never going to vote for them.
UKIP, BNP. Some of their idea's are alright, however they will be proper pissed of when their ban of imigration means they favorite football team can't buy players.
This only really leaves labour. I'm not keen on them either with their idea's on benifits, and slowly going towards a totalitarian state.
We really need a party called "to be honest we have no policies, just doing what is best at the time", however this would rely on the ideals of democracy working not plato's belief (you can't plan long term because you have to be elected again.), and the party not being "hyjacked" by others and being able to get in without a coalition.
Wow that was a long rant, simply they are all crap but labour at the moment is the least crap apart from being led by Ed wallace and gromit Milliband. -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?I take it you much prefer greedy conservatism which takes everything from everyone who has nothing?(Original post by Aspiringlawstudent)
Laziness, stupidity, jealousy and a desire to take from those that work and give to those that do not. -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour? The Tories received near enough the same vote as the SNP did at the last general election in Scotland. And Alex Salmond's 'landslide' victory in 2011 actually involved getting less votes on the second ballot than the UK Coalition government received in Scotland in 2010.(Original post by OrangeUK)

Now frankly if you're dealing in them v. us politics, you are already a Nationalist. Scotland is not a political unit in terms of UK general elections - what 'Scotland' votes for is pretty much an irrelevance. That's democracy. When Nationalists are unable to accept this, I generally chalk it up to bigotry against the other peoples of the United Kingdom.
Utter nonsense. The Scottish Parliament has virtually no powers over economic issues for a start. The list of reserved matters is quite considerable.(Original post by ukip72)

Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?No-one would vote for people like the two in that programme. Not that they'd ever be selected as candidates anyway. Believe it or not, it wasn't a documentary on the average Conservative.(Original post by lbsf1)

Firstly, the Tories didn't suggest it - Lord Browne, who the previous Labour government appointed to investigate university funding, recommended it. Actually, his recommendation was uncapped fees - it was the UK Government who thought up the cap.The liberals have lost any respect I had for them after they went back on one of the largest promises they made. They garunteed (sp) they would not raise fee's and then as soon as it was suggested by the torries they agreed, didn't put up any fight atall. Betraying completely the voters.
As for not getting their policies through - that's coalition government. The Lib Dems comprise a tiny portion of the Government - they don't get their own way all the time. As for putting up a fight, you'd never know: cabinet meetings are held secretly and, once agreed, a government position must be put forward by all members of the government.
Lib Dem voters should've known that they could only get into power by being part of a coalition. If they didn't realise that involved compromise, they were bloody idiots. -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour? The tuition fees thing wasn't the same as the other Lib Dem policies. Every Lib Dem candidate made a personal public promise that they would vote against any increase in tuition fees whatsoever under any circumstances.(Original post by L i b)

Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?I'm at a loss how 76 people neg-repped you for this. Everything you have said is the truth.....(Original post by Otkem)
I shall never forgive the Labour party for what they put my family through during 2009-10. I am interested though in seeing what motivates people to vote for such a damaging party. They damaged the economy, they damaged family values, they damaged people's trust in their government. They damaged everything you can imagine basically. What motivates you to want another Labour Govt? My opinion of Labour voters is that they are extremely selfish and do not care about the good of the long-term economy, as long as they get their handouts courtesy of the taxpayer. Now of course this isn't representative of all Labour voters, but I am at a loss as to explain why they won so many local council seats, and am quite frankly damn worried. -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?1) There is 1? billionaire in the tory party.(Original post by That Bearded Man)
Put your family through? And this would not have occurred under a Tory government? I vote Labour because the Tories a simply a bunch of thieving, cowardly billionaires that couldn't give a toss about me. Privatisation is a failed concept, watch and see the NHS implode if the Tories succeed. Damaged family values? Like the childcare benefit? University was in theory a great idea, but they encouraged too many applicants. Selfish ay? You say this in same breath as you watch Tories targetting pensioners, students, all while charging money to see our local elected PM?
2) So you're a benefit scrounger then? Thats the only people the tories hate.
3) Since when was "childcare benefit" a family value?
4) Privatisation has been happening since the 1600s- how's Cuba, North Korea and Russia these days?
5) Pensioners- people who had 50 years to save and still couldnt be bothered? -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour? Why do you think that is clever cloggs?(Original post by Alofleicester)
As for the thread title - That the Tories are screwing everyone over,
Could it possibly be because [drum roll] Labour left us in such a crap situation? -

Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?Well, since the economy was starting to improve again as labour left - probably not. I'd attribute it more to the Tories not realising that, while cuts may be helpful in lower the deficit, reducing spending doesn't help an economy, rather just suffocates one growing back.(Original post by billydisco)
