Re: Why do people vote Labour? If this were the real Gary Barlow, I'd become a fan of Take That right now for you saying that! haha(Original post by Gary Barlow)
why does anyone vote tory? -
Re: Why do people vote Labour? You can't blame labour entirely for a GLOBAL problem. Once the US took a tumble and fell into recession, it was evident that it would happen to us.(Original post by Zeffy)
Because the British public are morons who don't know what's good for them.
Democracy doesn't work because it's a system that allows two clueless morons to outvote an intellectual. I can't believe people have voted Labour... have they honestly forgotten how they drove the country to ruin when they were last in power? -
I believe this thread is a good indication of how out of touch and elitist TSR can be, can I ask how old some of you are? The same people who are A) Accusing labour supporters of selfishness are themselves insisting that they shouldnt have to share their income to contribute towards a fairer, equal, supportive and more prosperous civilised society. Is it selfish to want to help people less fortunate than you? Is it always their fault that they cant provide for themselves? My mum has cerebral palsy and you could not imagine the frustration and self-loathing that results from such situations, don't lap up the media lies that purvey all benefit claimants as undeserving, lazy, stupid and immoral scum - who knows; your life could one day end up in a similar situation of state dependency.
B) Accusing labour supporters of naivety whilst accusing them of being solely focussed on claiming more benefits. There are 5.8m benefit claimants in the UK and at the last general election labour received 8.6m votes (a bad result for them). Remember that the majority of people that are being demonised here don't even vote anyway; commonly believed to be due to a feeling of alienation from politics because nobody represents them; new-labour is not the socialist representative of the working class that labour once was. With a clear surplus of voters than claimants, who are these addition supprters? Alan Sugar, does he fit your ignorant benefit cheating stereotype? I believe he worked hard to get to where is - unlike our esteemed chancellor who's fortunate enough to be born into wealth; but selfish enough to avoid paying any tax on his inherited fortune.
Tory policy is to support the super rich and allow their tax avoidance as long as they be a good chap and donate to the coffers whilst squeezing the worst off (those least able of defending themselves) from public services that could easily be paid for if tories werent such selfish tax evaders. We have what is widely regarded as a fair progressive tax system, Lord O'Donnell recently stated a report that showed the optimum level of tax is 48% - yet Mr Osborne wants it dropped to 40%. IIRC, Japan once had income tax rates of 80%? That is un-doubtedly unfair.
Furthermore, why trust the coalitions economic plan? They insisted that public sector cuts were justified because of their strong faith and belief in the private sector's ability to increase recruitment. That has clearly failed and we are also in a double-dip, good job by Mr Osborne? I cant see much progress soon either whilst the Eton bunch are panicking about their murky relations to the disgraced Murdoch empire ; so much so that our PM has took time to personally request a platform to give his own version of events.
Anyway, enough rambling for 4am. What was the question? What motivates people to vote Conservative? -
Re: Why do people vote Labour? This is true democracy doesn't work. The main issue in the last general election was the economy. It is so stupid that most people were voting for what they thought would be best for the economy when 99% of people had no idea what the best policy was. We should let economists decide. Economic debates between polticians are pointless because they don't understand it and even if they did it would be far to techincal to talk about in an understandable way. It makes sense for the voters opinion to be reflected in issues such as should we allow gay marriage but for complicated issues, the public arent in a position to be making an informed choice.(Original post by Zeffy)

Are you aware of why we are in the worst recession we've had for 80 years and how the financial crisis triggered this downward spiral? We evidently needed more regulation to avoid such disaster - NOT LESS!(Original post by NGC773)
>More regulation
I wish people could expand their knowledge beyond the single minded and often ignorant ideology of free-market/low-regulation capitalism. We need a strong government that is willing to intervene in corporate actions when the living standards of it's own people are theatened. -
Re: Why do people vote Labour?Very true.(Original post by jamie092)
It's all so cloudy I have no idea which party to vote for, so I don't vote. It would take too much time for me to actually get in to politics and get my own idea of what the different parties would actually do. I feel that too many people vote without having a proper idea of what they're vote is doing. For example, I would want a much better understanding of economics before I decided to vote either way.

Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?I would like to point out that Lord Sugar urged voters NOT to vote for Livingstone.(Original post by iSMark)
Is this guy on the dole?

Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?
The recession wasnt something the Tories couldnt have stopped although it is possible we'd be slightly less worse off.
The question should be, what motivates working and lower middle class people to vote tory? When the Tories get in they always make life better for the rich and worse for the rest of us.Last edited by Clare~Bear; 05-05-2012 at 07:45. -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?Speaking of the treasury, remember Gordon Brown's little stint with the gold bullion, selling it for next to nothing?(Original post by That Bearded Man)
Also why are Tory supporters licking the arses of the tax dodging billionaires and instead scapegoating the benefit fraudsters? Especially since if everything was paid back to the treasury as owed I'd expect at least 85% of that to be the former. -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?Well done for completely misunderstanding what the term working class means.(Original post by That Bearded Man)
Labour no longer the party for the working class? We'll see about that. Also benefit cheats and immigrants can still be working too. -
Re: Why do people vote Labour? That's what he's complaining about?(Original post by Elwyn)
'clueless morons' have just the same right to decide who rules the country as 'intellectuals'.
Him: Clueless morons have the same democratic rights as intellectuals. This is stupid.

Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?
The lack of manners and insults flying through this thread is disgusting, some of the posts are so ignorant they don't have a clue who the average Labour or Tory voter is and instead stick to offensive and inaccurate caricatures. Party politics makes me sick.

Re: What motivates people to vote Labour?
Because labour care about the individual, the Tories only care about the demographics, the nation as a whole.
Labours priority is to a enable the possibility of as many people having a decent standard of living as possible. That is not a priority to the Tories, the disabled, the poor, the elderly aren't important really, why care about them?
And OP, you do realise right, that the recession would have been inevitable under any government right? But we are back in recession aren't we? Want to know why? The Tories ridiculous cuts, they were warned that their cuts were too harsh, too soon when our economy was still vulnerable. Unemployment figures have risen, more people are on the dole. And that is entirely down to the Tories.
Welcome to a Tory induced recession. More troubles for your family I'm afraid.
TSR has become ridiculously right- wing lately. -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour? So wait, when recession comes at a Labour hand off point, it was just inevitable, would have happened to any party in power at the time, and is nobody's fault. But when the Tories are in control it's clearly their policies?(Original post by EffieFlowers)

Seems a bit convenient to me. Are you a professional economist then? -
Re: What motivates people to vote Labour? For the upteenth time, most people in this thread are blaming Labour for creating a spiralling debt problem. Not a recession.(Original post by EffieFlowers)

Carry on spouting that populist rubbish, though

The goverent should be decided by those who live here, not a select few who think they're better than the rest.
