Edexcel GCSE Linear Maths New Spec A June 2012
I got a very high B in maths already and I'm re-sitting to try and get an A. Only problem is my class has now moved onto statistics so I have to do all the revision by myself and it's a totally new specification that I haven't learnt. I was wondering if anyone else is doing these papers and can advise me on what to expect and the type of grade boundaries ?
Thanks

Re: Edexcel GCSE Linear Maths New Spec A June 2012It's not really a totally new specification. The maths you need has hardly changed at all. The main difference is the use of problem solving and functional (practical) questions and some testing of your ability to clearly present your work and solution to a problem.(Original post by CloB12)

Your teacher can provide you with a mock paper and 3 practice papers produced by Edexcel that will give you some practice with the new style questions. They could also let you have some of the past papers for the latest modular specification that will give you a good idea of the types of questions you'll get especially for data handling (unit 1).
This revision guide and workbook contain more practice with the problem solving style questions as well as another example paper.

Nobody knows what the grade boundaries are likely to be. -

Re: Edexcel GCSE Linear Maths New Spec A June 2012I too am doing this paper; my first time to sit it. Although it is a new spec it seems pretty much the same as the old spec and I wouldn't have thought that there is anything new that you need to know.(Original post by CloB12)

Re: Edexcel GCSE Linear Maths New Spec A June 2012Yee. Hoping for an A*, would be quite disappointed with an A. Not saying an A is bad (it is really good!) but maths is my best subject so it is like the one where I really need an A*. Plus I need an A* to do Maths +Further Maths+Add Further Maths at sixth form. And I am doing AS this year so to get an A after being on A at AS would be annoying!(Original post by hello my name is)

i love functional skills questions but is that not like level 2 level which is grade c. Are they going to put the functional skills inside the higher tier? -
Re: Edexcel GCSE Linear Maths New Spec A June 2012You can not get an A though if your doing AS early(Original post by GreenLantern1)
