Beer adverts doing my head in
Anyone noticed how beer companies are trying to make their product seem as if it's suddenly become a quality drink, drunk by classy people?
Stella have got their 'Cidre' advert which really gets on my nerves. Such an arrogant advert, you forget they're Belgian and assume they're French due to the pompousness. 'We're classy so we drink from a chalice not a pint glass.'
Heineken with their fancy soirée of circus performers and dinner banquet malarkey, as if Heineken somehow adds to the occasion.
Finally, Fosters who produce a beer so notoriously known for tasting like piss, bring out their 'Gold' advert at the fancy garden party. Now, the advert itself isn't the problem. I purchased some tonight and having tasted it, I have to say the only discernible difference is that more closely resembles piss than it did before.
I'm not a big beer drinker but I do sometimes fancy a chilled one in the evening. Obviously some companies have bigger marketing budgets than others, and so of course their adverts will be shown more often and seen by more people. I guess what I'm getting at is that, it doesn't matter how bad the product is, as long as they give it a classy image people will buy it.
I really wanna know, are there actually any good quality beers on the market? If so, how do you go about discovering them without simply trying 1 of each? There must be some lesser-advertised delicious beers out there surely? Although the price is a lot higher due to import costs, I'm quite partial to Mexican/Spanish kinda beer such as Sol or San Miguel, and I like my German Beers too, but I dunno if there's anything else out there. -

Agreed with the stella one, pisses me off too.
I tend to just try one of the local pints in a pub, while mass produced lagers are alright, you can hit the jackpot sometimes with unknown beverages.
As for beers to have at home, tend to just get a crate of whatever is on offer. I do like Grolsch though. -

Try Belgian beers. Avoid your pale lagers and try real ale, its harder to come by and more expensive but you get what you pay for. Some of the best beers in the world (consumer opinion) are Belgian, but are much harder to sample as the best are Trappist ales, I think, which means they're only produced by small groups of monks and are generally very difficult to obtain.
If you ever get the chance, try Westvleteren 12. It is consistently voted one of the best beers in the world, although to get it legally you'll need to travel to Belgium to get it. I've been a few times, it's strong stuff at like 10.2% if you're not used to drinking proper beer then it might be a little much. -
Re: Beer adverts doing my head inYeah I've heard good stuff about Belgian beer. May have to give it a try but it might take a bit of getting used to the ales. Which ones are reasonably easy to obtain but still taste good? Are recommendations other than to go to Belgium?(Original post by SwimGood)

In Düsseldorf I couldn't help but drink 'Alt' which is a dark beer, a bit flat but generally really nice. Took a while getting used to it, although once I'd switched, I didn't wanna go back. You can drink for ages without really getting bloated.
Yeah, I find that one annoying too, but I won't touch American beers anyway.. That and Budweiser can think again.(Original post by M4LLY)
The only beer ad that gets on my nerves is the Coors Light one -
Re: Beer adverts doing my head inThis one in particular ****s me off, especially when the IPL is on and that gibberish comes on during the ad-break.(Original post by RichyFrench)
