What are the benefits of EU Membership?
As I understand it, it means
-ability to move freely to any other country in the EU. (does this also include permanent residence? - that seems odd)
-free trade (what does this mean exactly?)
-complying to european directives (how much influence does the UK have in the law-making or which laws for brought up for 'approval'? What about the UK public- something about MEP)
And what are the drawbacks?
Is there any benefit to the UK to gain permanent residents from other EU countries without any well-defined purpose? Is it also true that from the first day individuals are able to claim benefits, and is this reciprocated by other countries? How does Uk's welfare system compare to those of other EU members?
And what about the possible conflict between UK being a democracy that is voted in by UK residents and the introduction of EU laws?
Thanks for reading! -
Re: What are the benefits of EU Membership?
there are none. Only negatives; loss of sovereignty, loss of self determination, draining of wealth, mass immigration, uncontrolled borders. Free movement/trade can be established without the need of a political union, the EU's only purpose is the destruction of the nation state

Re: What are the benefits of EU Membership? That is hardly an EU advantage. More UK students study in the USA than in Germany, France and The Netherlands combined. Lots of British students study in places like Canada and Australia as well.(Original post by Morgsie)
