Loool i'm at the stage where i'm trying to memories the topics i'm not to familiar about such as domestic violence and childhood, but worried that i'm going to forget other info if i don't go over it!!! haha :P

Still got a good 9 hours till exam :P
Hi does anyone know who it is that says women can go to work because home life has become easier with slow cookers/microwaves and stuff. Can you elaborate on this? Isn't it Silver and??
Also who is it who says about the dual burden/triple shift? Thanks!
*Please respond quickly! I really need some sleep!*
It's Schor and Silver. I'm just going to say one name for most of those dual sociologist views/points, can't be bothered to remember both.

The view that housework has been commercialised meaning that cookers and microwaves (labour devices) this all reduces the amount of domestic labour that needs to be done, they assume that women working means they can afford to buy these goods and services! this is when Marxism gets involved because silver and schor do not take into account that some people may not be able to buy such goods and services (WC) they are assuming all women are of (MC)!

Also this still doesn't prove that couples are sharing the remaining chores equally!

Hope i helped, best of luck tomorrow don't stress your self a lot of it is logical! XD

Also many feminist argue that women have acquired what they call a dual burdan of paid work and unpaid house work, and men benefit from both of these! This leads to the "Triple shift" (emotion work) which means that women are not only expected to do a double shift of housework and paid work but also a triple shift of emotion work which is basically managing her own emotions as well as other people within the family! "Labour of love" or something o.O

Do you know of any actual postmodernist sociologists other than beck and beck?

I'm probably a little late but postmodernist sociologist I know are:
David Cheal: Promotes choice within the family unit; eg women can choose to leave a partner to create a single parent family without being stigmatised.
Anthony Giddins: plastic sexuality; women have the choice to sleep with who they wish and wherever they wish with no negative setbacks.
Also confluent love by Giddins which said that women seek for a perfect flawless relationship in today's society and if in a relationship which doesn't follow this they are able to change partners instantly.
Ian Luckhurst: pick n mix society. Able to choose what we want in today's society. Ranging from partners to jobs in which would be traditionally unacceptable.
Beck: along with choice comes 'risk society' as opposed to the stability that the nuclear family brings.

Hope this helps you  good luck

How did everyone find it?
thought it was a pretty fair paper.

the 'expeirences of childhood' kind of threw me a bit but i just talked about it being a social constuction/ position of children increasing so are their experiences etc. Social blurring/ toxic/death of childhood.

Family diversity question was kinda messed up for me. Spent too much time doing the childhood essay :/ still mentioned impact of feminism/ greater diversity. then talked about chester and murray whilst using the item. Wrote only a page though :/ (big handwriting)

Over all, i think i did pretty well in the first questions and childhood essay (if i answered it propely) and did okayish in the diversity Q.

Yeah I guess I'm more or less the same, but I believe I spent far too long on the childhood essay and as a result only managed to do like 3-4 paragraphs on family diversity :frown:
Im the same, spent ages on childhood, was so unsure how to tackle fam diversity. teacher hadnt covered the concept either, took a wild guess and said it was where the woman was at the center of the family.

heres to improving on paper 2...

Just wish i had like 10 more minutes to add the divesity essay lol.
I only wrote 4 paragraphs too. Basically just expanded on the item's points.. urgh, could so bashed out postmodernism.. damn time.

I can't remember quesion 2 either, but for 3 I put:

- change in the dependancy ratio
- ageism
- pressure on the public sector, eg NHS
oh just remembered 2: It was reasons for decrease in first marriage except for those in Item A, I said:

- secularisation
- less stigma about living alone
- creative singlehood

What did you put?

For question 2 I put secularisation and decline in stigma attached to alternatives, e.g. cohabitation and for question 3 I put dependency ratio, pressure on health services and policies to encourage older people to live in smaller houses to free up housing resources for younger families:smile:
