Transferring to Newcastle for Computing Science Bsc
Hi, I'm transferring to Newcastle Uni for Computing Science (second year entry).

Before I go in September, I just wanted to know what people thought of the course? Is there anything I should be aware of?

Also, are there any current first years going in to the second year? It'd be good to get to know a couple before I turn up

    I'm a current first year.

The course is great, if a little slow at the moment.

    Where are you coming from?
    Got your accommodation sorted?

Ah, cool. I'm transferring from Northumbria (just next door :P) Newcastle has a better reputation and is meant to be a bit more academic, which should be fun.

My home is just a couple of miles out of Newcastle so I'll just live there for my 2nd year.

Fingers crossed I'll be there in September

also, what did you think of your timetable? At northumbria I was only there for 3 days a week which was really nice!

Aww. Our timetable isn't as nice as that I'm afraid.
Usually (supposed to be) in every day.

Hey I'm hopefully transfering to Newcastle as a 2nd year from an other uni, but to study history. I've moved partly for a better course and to be back in the North East. I'm not from Newcastle though so looking forward to exploring a new city if I get in.

    Hi,
ahh, Newcatle's a nice city. Where are you transferring from? Also, what kind of condition have you been given from Newcastle? I need a 2.1 this year which should be manageable

From currently studying BSc CS at Newcastle, the timetable is approx 3 hours a day, Wednesday afternoons off for whatever reason. Lots of people on the course and great nightlife

Ah, ok. That doesn't sound too bad actually. Are you currently a first year?

I had considered it, but I dunno, the course sounded so stiff and boring. Very academic though I guess!

So I'm assuming you're transferring to repeat year 1? Or are you starting at year 2? I'm going to assume you'll need to know OO Java then, else you'll be buggered?

I'm transferring into the second year. The modules are very similar at both Universities so I hopefully haven’t missed too much. The condition for my entry is a 2.1 overall and at least 2.1 in all of my Java modules. So yeah, OO Java programming is essential.

As far as the boring side of things goes, I'm not too bothered. I'm a relatively boring person so I should fit right in :P

My only concern is if I get out of my depth, for instance if a module that I haven't done is crucial to next year. meh, it'll be an adventure

Any reason why you're changing then? I've no doubt shared a lecture or two with you lol

Well when I originally applied to Uni in 2010 I was accepted at Newcastle, but I was only targeted a D/C in computing at A-level. I decided to resit most of the exams and got a B. I was happy with the grade and just thought Newcastle would accept me again... wrong. They didn't give me an offer even though I had better grades, so I decided to go to Northumbria instead.
Although Northumbria's a really good Uni I just feel like I'm settling for it. When one of my friends told me about how he was transferring to another Uni to be closer to home I started to think about maybe transferring to Newcastle.

you're at Northumbria too? What did you think of the exams?
