Re: Nervous for my first tattoo!
edit: ignore all that, I didn't notice you saying that you first wanted it at 14/15, I thought you WERE 14/15

In which case, I just say you should make sure you want it beforehand, and that it doesn't look tacky. Plus bear in mind that it'll lose definition over time, so smaller tattoos are better off being simple symbols and the like.Last edited by Architecture-er; 06-05-2012 at 16:41. -
Re: Nervous for my first tattoo!haha don't worry that's my fault for not changing my profile... I don't use this site a great deal!(Original post by Architecture-er)

Re: Nervous for my first tattoo!Meh I didn't even look at your profile, I just skim-read your OP(Original post by bananaslug77)

I blame it on this protein shake I drank an hour ago, making me feel like death..
Out of interest, how old are you then? 18/19? -
Re: Nervous for my first tattoo!19, 20 in a couple of weeks haha. I thought I'd wait until I was well past being in that stage of "I'm 18 I can do whatever I want" so I was still sure I wanted a tattoo haha.(Original post by Architecture-er)

19, 20 in a couple of weeks haha. I thought I'd wait until I was well past being in that stage of "I'm 18 I can do whatever I want" so I was still sure I wanted a tattoo haha.
Do you have any pics of the tattoo design / web links? -
Re: Nervous for my first tattoo! Not on this pc I'm afraid! I'll maybe take a photo after I've got it on wed

Basically it's going to be a skull on my ribs with autumn leaves above and below it with some flowers too. It doesn't really have any deep meaning or anything, I just love skulls and autumn haha. -
Re: Nervous for my first tattoo!Even so, you don't come across as being mature enough to get it. Being nervous is normal, but being "super nervous" - and so much so that you post a thread asking people's opinions - goes beyond that.(Original post by bananaslug77)

Re: Nervous for my first tattoo!
I got a tattoo recently. I went through pretty much the same thing you did, except I told my parents about it to get their opionion. It wasn't bad at all. Neither of them approved but they were pretty cool about it anyways.
They day of the tattoo was pretty much at random. I had been thinking about it for years but I never actually had a chance. Then one Sunday I woke up knowing that that would be the day, and it was.
I'm hoping to get another one soon and I'm sure that I'll be super nervous all over again but I know I won't regret it afterwards, so it doesn't really matter :P
Mine was of John Lennon. You can google "John Lennon Doodle" the one in color is the one. Next one is going to be a peace sign and somewhere along the line there will be an owl in there. I hope...
Good luck by the way! If you want it as much as I think you do then it'll go by smoothly, with a little pain, but no regretsLast edited by kkleon; 06-05-2012 at 19:12. -
Re: Nervous for my first tattoo!Well as I've already stated above I'm someone who has a lot of problems with anxiety/nerves. I can't even go on holiday without freaking out quite a lot so naturally a tattoo won't come without it's own problems for me haha. The purpose of this thread wasn't really "should I get a tattoo?" If I was still asking that question at this point then it would be ridiculous for me to have booked a tattoo already. The question is how to cope with nerves before it, get some info from people who've had tattoos or had nerves before their tattoo was done.(Original post by Juno)
Even so, you don't come across as being mature enough to get it. Being nervous is normal, but being "super nervous" - and so much so that you post a thread asking people's opinions - goes beyond that. -

I sat on the bench outside the tattoo studio I went to for 15 minutes before I had the balls to go in, even though I'd been in before for a consultation.
It's a big commitment!
And perhaps OP started the thread because she has no one IRL with tattoos to talk to/calm her nerves?
Also, negging me? Pretty immature.Last edited by Popppppy; 06-05-2012 at 22:39. -
Re: Nervous for my first tattoo!Well since doing an art project where I literally painted/sketched about 20 skulls, I've just really liked them. No particular meaning or deep reason attached to it other than that! I also studied Frida Kahlo in art when I was like 15 and discovered the mexican festival called "the day of the dead" where skulls are actually symbolic in a positive way instead of other cultures which find skulls symbols of death and morbidity. So I was glad it wasn't just me that liked skulls for good reasons!(Original post by winning11)
how comes you want a skull? -
Re: Nervous for my first tattoo! Thanks! That makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one! What kind of tattoo did you get done?(Original post by Popppppy)

I got a lightening bolt. It's only tiny though, two inches tall. -
Re: Nervous for my first tattoo!
if youre nervous and worried about what your parents think, could it be that youre too young/not mature enough to get a tattoo....
is it not possible for you to simply wait till youre more independant? whats the rush?
id rather wait a bit more and be confident about my decision than be a nervous wreck and get it done early.... have you had a talk with your parents? it would be quite sad if you got in on your arm or something and spent most of your time hiding it from your parents or something
i like tattoos... within reason...Last edited by Dmon1Unlimited; 06-05-2012 at 23:40. -
Re: Nervous for my first tattoo!I LOVE sugar skulls. I like the fact they're a bit dark but the designs can be so beautiful and intricate. I want one myself but I'm not sure where I'd have it.(Original post by bananaslug77)
