How hard is Chemistry in comparison to Maths?
Hi, I'm in year 12 at the moment. I have been considering starting again with different A Levels, not certain but yeah. I do Maths, Psychology, Economics and Computing. Can anyone tell me how hard it is? Or compare it to my subjects to make it easier to explain? :P

Yeah I know it's subjective but it'd be nice to get some views.

Oh and I got an A at GCSE but it doesn't really count as I didn't do work all year and managed to learn a good amount the night before and got an A in them :P I know this is a bad work ethic but I've learnt that I can't keep doing that this year and haven't been.

In my experience Chemistry at AS is harder (as there is just soooo much content to learn) than AS Maths. Though I hear it is more equal at A2 as Chemistry has slightly less content than AS; and Maths A2 (C3+C4) are quite a bit harder than AS.

Did you enjoy chemistry at gcse?
Do you enjoy maths now and understand it?

Personally i hated chemistry (bad teachers didnt help) but love maths which comes much more naturally to me, so i found maths easier. I think its important that you enjoy the subject, because it means you will inevitably put in more effort to all the work and so understand it better.

Both are difficult A levels though, so dont expect to be able to do no work all year like you did at GCSE!

edit: I only have experience of AS chemistry though, dropped that at the first opportunity - but i can happily tell you all about maths/further maths/physics

Hmm, a lot more content to memorise in Chemistry and a bit more tricky but I'd say roughly the same (as long as you have equal ability in both..)

different skills are needed in the two. Certainly for maths its about understanding what to do whilst in Chemistry alot of it is learning more so at AS

but i dont like biology, so im not really as good at that,
so i geuss the more you want to do a subject, the more willing you are to learn it?

I'm doing my AS levels atm and in my opinion maths is pretty straight forward. You learn the methods and it's pretty much the same with some tricky ones thrown in here and there.

Chemistry on the other hand is easy enough to learn off but if you dont understand it and aren't able to apply your knowledge then there's no point in even showing up for the exam. Basically you can't dictate answers for chemistry at AS like you could at GCSE.
