I'm 14, how would I get into rowing?
Hello TSR! I know there are a few rowers on here and I am asking how I could possibly get into rowing?

Here's some info about me, might be useful?
    I'm 14 years old.
    5 foot 7.
8.5 stone. Not at all fat.
I play a lot of sport. Squash, football, badminton, cycling.

Looking to start rowing for the workout side, fitness and for fun really.
    Thanks

As a novice it does not really matter, well when I started I just wore sport shorts and a sport t-shirt, make you dont wear baggy stuff as you dont want to get your clothes stuck in on your oars or in the seat slide. as you progress and get faster/better boats etc enter races then you can get Lycra and stuff,

    Not really.

It does happen, but you're more likely to get chinned by your oar handles than anything else.

Ha, depended on the boat, I did mainly octos at the start and so with such a big boat it was nearly impossibly to capsize. but in singles and pairs have to say I did capsize on the odd occasion early on, but in singles it is quite easy to jump back into the boat and the boat club will have a safety launch, so you're always safe.

I'm not sure if I should start. I'm a very weak swimmer, would this be a disadvantage?

the boat would most likely float, so the general rule is stick with the boat (hold onto it etc use it to keep afloat) so as long as you can swim it should be fine, but if you can not swim then I would think twice about it, as in rivers etc it could be dangerous, but as long as your sensible all would be fine.

There's a club that uses the main river through Lincoln I believe. Would you get swimming lessons first, then look into it?

Not necessarily I can't swim, but still row at my unis boat club -thinking of learning however.
