I live in India and I hate it. I've decided that I won't start a family before I immigrate to a developed country. This is because I don't want my kids (if I have any) to endure what I had to endure. Personally, I think it is plain unethical to have kids in extremely poor countries.

What would you do if you lived in a very poor country?

I live in a country with a high GDP per capita. I don't think I would want to have children though. It just involves added costs.

Even if I were born a poor country, I would still be sexually attracted to women. Probably moreso considering there are statistically fewer instances of homosexuality in poor countries, and the likelihood that there may actually be legislation against it.

It would also be unlikely that, given my poverty, I would have access to contraceptive methods like condoms. Put two and two together and yes, I would probably start a family there, though not necessarily for the purpose of procreation... if you catch my drift.

    Great, more immigrants.
More motivated workers, just what this country needs if it is to remain economically competitive.

Well, I'm attracted to women too. However, I've decided to temporarily abstain from sexual relations so my future kids won't have to suffer.

You seemed to have turned out fine and wanted to be successful.
    Arguably send back remittances?

    Why shouldn't the rest

Doing what jobs exactly? Unemployment is only going one-way and I doubt that many of the immigrants are highly-skilled.

I definitely wouldn't, no. I wouldn't even have a family if I were relatively poor in a very rich country. If I were to have a family, I would want to ensure that they had the best, most fulfilling and fun upbringing I could provide (esp. as they would be adopted children, and therefore may have had to endure more hardships than most). This would mean providing them with the opportunity to go swimming, go to libraries, go to museums, learn languages, play the piano etc. as well as a nice house in a nice area. This would all require quite a bit of money.

The main reasons why people in LEDC's have children and a lot of them is mainly because there is a lack of sexually education combined with a lack of contraception means it is pretty much impossible not to have kids. It is not just because people are unethical and want their children to endure hardship. There is also financial benefit of having kids as in poor countries, they often have no minimum age to work, so the children can work and bring in money for the family

To endur what youve had to endure?

Judging by your very existence on TheStudentRoom, proves you have Internet. Your previous posts also suggest you watch tv, have an opinion on the latest IPad, and you seem to have offers for Maths at some of the best universities in UK.

Personally, I think you've had it pretty good.

Thanks. I agree that my family is somewhat well-off.

But I hate the fact that
    1) hardly anyone speaks good English (which is the only language I know properly)
    2) the roads are so crowded
    3) garbage is strewn in public places
    4) there is too much corruption
    5) there are no decent universities (which is why I had to apply to foreign countries like the UK)

Unless you're part of the poorest 30% of India (which owning a computer shows you're clearly not) I don't see what your problem is.

You're another great example of the quest for the unearned. You think an accident of birth suddenly morally entitles you to live in a nice place more than somebody born in a different part of the world.

There appears to be statistically fewer instances of homosexuality in poor countries because they are scared to death of admitting to it.

In what way is the UK crap? It has everything that India doesn't. Personally, I think it is one of the very best countries in the world.

dirty air, litter, over crowdedness, poverty as there is a recession, it's very expensive for housing and day to day necesities, weather is rubbish, high crime rate in some areas, unreliable politicians, unemployment (now at 9%).
However... NHS, benefit system so you'll never starve, rich history.

It depends on what the government policy is and whether there is hope for the future. If I was in a country like Botswana I would probably stay. If I was in a country like Zimbabwe I would take my family elsewhere (either to the West, or to a developing country with better opportunities - like Botswana).
