Anyone for the University of Nottingham?
    Hi everyone

Was just wondering if there is anybody else who is hoping to go to Nottingham this year?

I'm 24 and have a conditional offer for adult nursing.

    Hi,

Will that be a Royal Derby Hospital or in Notts? I've firmed my conditional for Notts Healthcare Science taught at Derby.

QMC campus - it's closer for me and I already know the Nottingham hospitals better.

Exciting times! Healthcare Science sounds interesting, what got you into it?

Wow that sounds amazing but definitely scary!!

I'm not from Nottingham but have lived here for the past 3 years so will carry on living at home. What about you?

thought id repost an old post of mine, dunno, might help some people
-hilly as ****... though ive gotten used to walking up hill and i make couch potatoes look like athletes
-there are hopper buses that are free to use to get around campus
-library facilities quite good but sometimes the computer rooms get full including exam time (reference to george green and hallward library)
-uni rooms are expensive as hell but thats to be expected with a lot of unis...
    - buildings look nice
-catered food- if youre taste buds are not of a rich 90 year old and more like mine, then the food is alright...
-obviously theres a lot of students there but if you walk out on a normal day you wouldnt see too many (compared to the thousands that go there)...
    -gym is nice
-they asked me for an interview when i applied, i declined because i was in london, they happily accepted me anyway...
-they offer a somewhat large number of options to disabled students (opinion)
    - despite what other people have said on here... i have seen no crime what so ever... its probably the same as any other city (and im from east london)
-in some places you can use wifi outside
-sometimes (not often) people from other halls pull pranks on other halls typically along the lines of making a mess...(not really a problem for you personally though)
-if you live near the west entrance, then shops and all that are about 5-10 mins away...
-im not a clubber so i cant tell you much but there are regular clubbing events (number has died down a little as term started)
-takes about 30 mins to walk through the entire uni park campus
-nice lake, good place to walk around, nice scenery etc...
-you pay for laundry (quid for dryer, 1.40 for washing machine (bring your tablets/blah)... though other places may be more expensive
-if youre catered, you get credit on your ID worth £5.10, you can spend this in the uni cafes (if you have lunch in hall then all of it is taken), no it cant be used in bars...
-your uni ID can get you discounts at some places like ryman (stationary)
-they took FOREVER when deciding whether to accept me even if i met the conditions so dont be worried if you dont instantly know whether you been accepted or not on results day

i dont know what other unis are like so i cant really judge but i like it...
ill edit if i can think of more...

Hi. I'm 21 so I'm not sure if I count as mature. I'm hopefully going to be at Notts doing medicine come September.

Thanks for this, I'm sure it will be helpful for those who don't know the campus very well

Hey! How have you found your first year? What's it like being around a lot of younger students? I won't be staying in halls, have you got any advice on how to make sure I don't miss out on any social activities? Cheers

I have been living in Broadgate park.. it has been okay but next year I shall be living in private accommodation with masters students of the same age. In general I find getting on with younger students fine, as at the end of the day it is all down to particular personalities as some are actually very mature (you would be surprised), but obviously some are very immature. I have found that alot of my friends are international students from germany, france etc. and in general are a bit more sensible as they pay alot more than UK students and they are all about 20-21 as that is the normal age to go to uni for them. I definitely matured alot from 18-20, and it really shows. My advice is get involved with as many clubs and societies as possible, there is alot on offer, so try the alternative sports on offer as there are usually less ego's to compete with and you may only get a chance to play these at uni. I started Handball this year, and have made some brilliant friends and have a great social life through it. And in general, there is less stigma about age as sports teams are for everyone, undergrad, masters, phD through to lecturers even play so there are all ages. Sooo....to conclude, just go with it and embrace student life, and you definitely will not be the youngest student and you will soon find other mature students! I know there is a guy who is 70 studying here!

We liked the university when we visited. I had an unconditional offer but declined it as Nottingham were the only Uni to reject my wife. So we accepted unconditionals from elsewhere.

Shame really, we liked the courses.

Hi! If you trawl through a few threads on here regarding age and fitting in to halls/university you'll find it doesn't seem to be an issue at all, so long as you make an effort to socialise and don't let your age bother you too much. It also depends on where you feel you would be most comfortable though. Sorry I can't be of more help as I've not experienced university & living in halls myself yet. I'm applying to study at Nottingham university also & will be 22 next year.

One of my UCAS choices is Nottingham Uni. I've applied to do a Science Foundation Year there. Not expecting to receive an offer, but would be pleasantly surprised if I do!

Edit - It isn't anymore I've withdrawn it.
