    HIGHER MODERN STUDIES powers president n immigratipm HELP!
    Hello everyone. Well im revising for my modern studies exam which is in three DAYS and I thimk I need some help on a few aspects;

    Powers of the president; exectutive, judicial and legislative are all.branches, but what one of them does his role as commander in cheif count, or is that a role seperate to them...and also the main points of supreme courts checks and balances over the president, and can we use the iraq war as an example or is it too vague,
    Head of state is the same as exucutive head right, as in carrying out the laws.

    Besides the health reform bill, what other "wow factors" and examples can I use.

    Could someone really patient with my stupid self explain the DREAM act to me, and how I can use that as an example of presidents power.

    Thank you so much. And lots of luck to everyone else doing modern studies.

    I know this sounds all last minute, but im being minite in every detail...i HAVE to get an A. :-)

    The President and his Cabinet form the Executive, and they have nothing to do with the Legislature or the Judiciary. His role as Commander in Chief is part of his Executive powers, and yes you could use the Iraq War as an example, but also mention how the Legislature (Congress) need to authorise any action and that this is a check on the President's power.

    Thanks :-) another q; it says here he can authorise the use of troops overboard without declaring war, without approval of congress; so is the war an example of this or an example of him getting approval from congress before actipn (and how much majority vote must he have, and was congress at george bushs time overall republican, rigjt?) :-)

    The authorisation of force is not the same as a declaration of war. He can send peacekeeping troops abroad but he can't declare war on his own. The Iraq War was a full-scale war which required Congressional authorisation. Congress at the time was overall Republican, but many Democrats also voted in favour of the war. I think a simple majority is enough to pass a declaration of war.

    Seeing as you seem to be fine now, I won't really bother answering the inital questions. However the exam is on Friday 11th so I don't know where you're getting the 3 days from... :confused:
