    Hazard perception & Theory tests.
So the DSA aren't releasing the questions this year. Did anyone get some questions that they really didn't know, or is it basically the same as the mocks you can get on the internet?

Also, where can I find some free HTP clips? I'm most worried about this bit, you can't really feel confident on it!

It's all a piece of piss if you learn it. The multiple choice is mostly common sense, just do one of the many practice CD ROMs and you'll be set.

As far as the HP goes, when you see a hazard, click, and click again once or twice at one second intervals thereafter - ensuring you haven't clicked early and missed your points.

Don't click too many times in one go though, otherwise you'll get a big fat zero for that hazard.

I've done lots of mocks for the multiple choice thing, I've been getting about 48/50 so that's okay. I was just a bit worried that they might start asking questions that you have to remember exact numbers (like thinking distance when travelling at 30mph) or something, as they aren't publishing the questions.

    Thanks for the advice!

Just know the highway code. I was asked a question on what gap to leave between you and the car in front in good conditions. I was also asked a question on what one of the signs meant on the dashboard (check brake lights, oil check etc). It is mostly common sense. I recommend getting the 3 in 1 CD rom set, it has 100s of questions and 100s of clips and you get the hang of them. You can also do mock tests as well.

Thanks. Can you give me a link to the CD? I'll have to try and get it!

There you go. I just went over and over the random tests, especially the hazard perception clips, i actually didn't have enough time to go through them all before my test but I passed first time so I'm sure you can too! When is your test?

Everything they ask is in the Highway Code so there shouldnt be any surprises. Most of it is common senseand some of the possible answers are just ridiculous! I was able to scrape a pass on the mocks before i even read any of it! Yes they're not pubishing actual questions anymore but there's ony so much they can ask, it'll just be re-worded I imagine. I got the BSM iPhone app when I did mine, not expensive and it has loads of mock questions and about 12 HP clips. There are also clips on the AA website (though cant remember if you have to have a learner account to access those). It would be worth investing some money into something decent though instead of trawing the free stuff. CD roms will often include useful tips on all aspects of learning to drive and all aspects of the tests.

Thanks. My test is on Thursday. I booked it then because it is either then or a good few weeks (because of my college stuff). I feel prepared for the multiple choice bit, its just the hazard perception bit that worrys me. I'll try and get that CD tomorrow, and it will give me 2 nights and one day to practice them! :P

So I understand that the theory test question have changed for this year and that the DSA are not releasing all the question like they used to. But I was wondering if I could still use my Driving Test Success 2011 interactive DVD to revision for Hazard Perception. Surely they keep the situations that you need to look out for the same, right?

Definitely. In fact, I don't think there is much need to buy the 2012 one when it will probably feature the same questions as the 2011 one [esp as the new questions are not being released].

A few goes with the DVD and a quick read through the highway code and you should be alright.
