Middlesex university or Camberwell (UAL)
Hey everyone!
Seems like I have a really difficult choice here...
I have been offered unconditional places for Fda Graphic design at Camberwell and BA graphic design at Middlesex uni, and this seems like the most difficult choice ever. I set my goals for Camberwell, but seems like Middlesex is just as good!
Any experience with either uni's anyone??
Any comments/advice would be much appreciated! -
Re: Middlesex university or Camberwell (UAL)Im going to Camberwell in September, I was really impressed with the work of the illustration and graphic design students at Camberwell in the degree show (Im doing Fine Art). However most of the students in my class have chosen to go to Middlesex, some of them they chose it over the UAL universities becasue they were so blown away by the facilities and feeling of the place. Its hard because you're choosing between an Fda and BA - I dunno, Id tend to go for the BA, but if you reallllly love camberwell and its where your heart is, go for it. Sorry, not much help I know(Original post by myhf)

Re: Middlesex university or Camberwell (UAL)
I've a friend that did a Foundation diploma in art and design at Camberwell and then specialised in illustration but played with graphic design a little. He said it's amazing and it was without a doubt his first choice when it came to applying the following year. If you're interested, the Fda Camberwell show is on this week, I'm going to it also. I have actually just completed my Fda from CSM, and I'm sure I can speak for all UAL colleges when I say that it's an amazing experience! :-) I haven't heard much about Middlesex, sorry, but if reputation is something you're bothered by, then I think UAL is generally considered better than Middlesex (for the arts); one of the greatest things about studying at a UAL college is that because it caters for a variety of arts courses, you can find inspiration everywhere! It's just a very inspiring environment to be in. I hope I've helped in some way, I'm sorry I couldn't say more about Middlesex.

Thanks for all the info guys! Any kind of info is really appreciated
@SanCloud: Glad to hear there is an FDa show at Camberwell this week. Do you know where I can find the info for it? Can't seem to find anything on UAL website.
Cheers.

I will also add that at least in my case, doing a foundation year helped me develop my skills and build a portfolio that allowed me to get into a wider range of universities (as I hadn't had the time to organise a proper portfolio during my A-Levels). Some people love the wealth of skills and experiences they gain from the year and others feel it was a waste of time. However, I will add that the ones with a few regrets tend to be the older (18+) students that were not able to study for free at UAL, or international students, that were not able to study free of charge, regardless. It really depends on your position and whether you feel like a FDA will develop your skills or simply be a 'waste of time'.

Re: Middlesex university or Camberwell (UAL)I think the OP was talking about an FDa not the Foundation course - the FDa is not something you do to organise a portfolio to get onto a degree course - its a two year full time qualification slightly less than a BA. Its not guaranteed you get onto the 3rd year of the BA after the two years.(Original post by SanCloud)

I have a classmate who got offered BA graphic design at CSM or Fda Illustration at Camberwell - though he had really wanted Camberwell, after talking to tutors ALL recommended he go for the BA as the FDa (not Foundation) is a waste of time.
The Foundation show will not be a representation of the FDa bout would be a good time to try and grab someone who might know something about the FDa
