Re: Top 10 gadgets for universitythats my plan I'm a studying computer science in september and I'm going to advertise Windows 7, Microsft Office 2010 and whatever other programs needed for £10.. Good way to make money plus if you were to buy the programs on the net it would set you back £200(Original post by Rakas21)
Indeed, if you pay a computer science student £10 you can probably get them to put it together for you as well reducing the cost even more as you can buy the peices.
No reason to buy a USB or external drive either, just store online and download.
The George Forman is a good idea though.
Desktop
Ipad
Phone

Re: Top 10 gadgets for universityI can't imagine you'll be doing that for long. Distributing illegal copies tends to get cracked down on very quickly.(Original post by steviemcg)

Re: Top 10 gadgets for universityWell if you feel you can get away with it, good luck! I wouldn't want to be you if you get caught though, unlikely as it is.(Original post by steviemcg)

Re: Top 10 gadgets for universityYay! A fellow foilist.... good day to you sir(Original post by Sir Fox)
My foil - best gadget ever! The most obvious reason: fencing
But also good for winning arguments (makes you very persuasive), fighting off people who try to invade your room, it works great as a wall decoration etc.

*I get a tad too excited when i see someone else in the world does fencing haha*

Re: Top 10 gadgets for universityAt first I thought you meant aluminium foil or something, so I was very confused as to how that had any connection to fencing and winning arguments. I also thought it was peculiar that you wanted to decorate your walls with aluminium foil.(Original post by Sir Fox)

But, it all makes sense now. You meant the sword thingie from fencing! I feel so smart. -
Re: Top 10 gadgets for universityYeah, same to you. Let's wield our foils and poke on sabre and epee(Original post by Badass username)

Well, in German it's 'Florett', this word is only used for the weapon and has no second meaning - in English there is that problem

Re: Top 10 gadgets for university
To be perfectly honest, you had me at Hobbes.
At college (I board!) I bought myself a plug-in room freshener, and my goodness it's made the difference... It wasn't much either... Probably about 10 pounds for a whole year.
I can't describe how nice it is to walk into my room from an often smelly coridoor, into a non-overpowering, refreshing smell.
Can't recommend enough!
(For anyone interested, it's an ambi pur one.) -
Re: Top 10 gadgets for universityiPad = £250(Original post by _vilaseca_)
But an ipad isnt a rip off?
My first year books alone = £120 + £70 + £50 + £40 + £40 + £25 + £17 + £9 = £371
so instead, bought the iPad, found the books online and stuck the PDFs on thereLast edited by viksta1000; 17-06-2012 at 20:38. -
Re: Top 10 gadgets for universityI thought that too...most of the books I was going to buy were used, but the lecturers insisted that we buy new ones to get the latest editions (obviously a money making scam) and its alot harder to borrow a book from the library when there's only 6 books between a class of 270(Original post by _vilaseca_)
i thought students buy the books second hand and use the library to save money -
Re: Top 10 gadgets for universityWhere possible they do. But it's not always possible, more so with new editions, and required texts changing. Libraries are great, but there's only so many copies they can carry of each text, and with the class sizes there often are now, they'd never be able to hold enough of each.(Original post by _vilaseca_)

Re: Top 10 gadgets for universityWhatever you do don't post that if you have an Ipad, iphone, car or anything people can't stand it lol.(Original post by HelenOn)
What was wrong with this list? Why is it being negged so much?
This thread seems to be the usual TSR thing - admit you have some nice things - blazing negs. Claim you can do it all for a fiver plus Tesco points - pos'ed. -
Re: Top 10 gadgets for university
This thread has made me laugh
And given me a few ideas
My 'gadget' list:
- I don't really count my phone as a gadget...but my Nokia N8 is going with me
And maybe my old Nokia as well.
- My laptop, hopefully I can afford a smaller one before I go as the one I have now is huge...I want a portable laptop and I've been using a laptop for so long I don't think I could easily switch back to desktops...
- iPod dock/laptop speakers, have yet to decide which I'm taking. I might just use my laptops built in speakers, it's worked so far
And the dock is to charge my iPod since I never remember to do it otherwise...
- Camera, cause I realised today that I don't own one. I have an awesome camera phone, but I'm thinking a camera would be a handy gadget.
- I've been promised an iPad as a present from relatives, if they come thorough and get me one, great. A free iPad. If not I'll cave and buy an eReader of some sort...Kindle Fire maybe (if it ever comes out in the UK...)
- External hard drive or a USB with enough space for all my pictures I don't wanna lose.
This is a weird list for me, especially since I don't count half of these as gadgets. A lot of these seem like requirements for uni. But I'm not the kind of person to buy useless things that I'll never really use...so this is my 'gadgets' list.

Re: Top 10 gadgets for university
In all fairness guys, this is a list of 'Top 10 gadgets for university' - surely if someone feels that a MacBook is a top 10 suggestion it is valid, even if you don't agree? And let's face it; there is a difference between recommending a laptop (which could be Linux, Windows, Mac or Chrome OS for example) and a MacBook (not saying it's a good difference, just that it is there).
If someone went onto a thread and randomly shouted 'I HAVE A MACBOOK PRO, iPAD AND DR. DRE BEATS, ANYONE WHO DOESN'T IS A PLEB', then I agree that they should be negative repped to next Christmas. But you can't blame someone for offering their opinion, when their opinion has been asked for by the OP.
And with regards to the cost-effectiveness of such gadgets, I agree that Dr. Dre Beats are overpriced, but if someone wants to put £300 towards them that's their decision. Perhaps they decided not to eat for a month to achieve that (or worked), doesn't necessarily mean they are loaded.
But also good for winning arguments (makes you very persuasive), fighting off people who try to invade your room, it works great as a wall decoration etc.
