University of Toronto offer- conditional or unconditional?
Hi, well basically I got an offer from Toronto in Canada a few days back, and they didn't specify any conditions. I'm currently taking my IB diploma, and have firmed Edinburgh in the UK, but can't understand whether Toronto's offer is conditional or not.
It says nothing about 'maintaining your grades' or 'we reserve the right to revoke your offer' or any academic requirement whatsoever. Nothing on either the email nor the actual offer letter that they mailed me.
Under the Terms and Conditions of Your Offer section on the letter, it just says: 'You have been given a clear offer of admission with no additional conditions.'
I checked with my friends who also have U of T offers, and their letters said 'This offer is based on your predicted grades and we reserve the right to revoke your offer.' Basically a 'maintain your grades' type of thing, but it doesn't say that on mine anywhere!
So... is it unconditional? It would be such a blessing if it was, because I'm in the middle of my exams and pretty stressed out about my grades!
Please, I need answers because I have to reply by 22nd May! Thanks!

If I were you, I'd ring up their admissions office to confirm. However, I did the IB and had friends who applied to canadian unis, and their offers were largely unconditional. a couple got a condition of 35 points, but those were explicitly mentioned. so congrats

It just seems a bit unlikely, especially as these two friends were predicted a bit higher than me. Any idea on how they decide whether to give out a conditional or unconditional?
I'll probably try contacting them to confirm, but the reply date is the date my exams end
Oh and... this might sound stupid but, if I accept their offer I won't be obliged to go there, will I? Assuming I meet my Edinburgh offer, can I decline them anyway and go to the UK? -

In my experience, all american and most canadian universities give out unconditional offers. It's just how they do things I think. Most of my class went to american/canadian unis, very few to UK unis, and every american offer was unconditional, almost every canadian offer was unconditional too. The canadian offers that were conditional were all due to university-specific policies, not student-specific choices

I suggest you contact the admissions office and ask them whether you would be able to refuse the offer if you were to be accepted by Edinburgh. I'm sure it shouldn't be a problem since they do have a waiting list, but give them a call just to confirm. -
Re: University of Toronto offer- conditional or unconditional?although sounds like an unconditional offer to me, you should ring up with the university or ask your counselor, because you don't want to be unsure of something. Anyways U of T has an high acceptance rate, so i wouldnt be surprised if it were unconditional. anyways congrats its a top uni!(Original post by saachi)

Re: University of Toronto offer- conditional or unconditional?
It is extremely rare for an offer to be withdrawn. If final marks drop below offer conditions, they will allow the student an opportunity to explain why the marks have dropped. Usually if marks drop by a significant amount, it is accompanied by serious personal situation (major illness/death in the family). If a pre-requisite course is failed, the offer will be withdrawn. The easiest way to avoid this scenario is to keep working hard and continue to achieve as you have been doing so far. If your marks do drop a lot and you are an international student, they'll tell you you're on probation which will not be an issue unless you bomb in first year.

I contacted them and they said it's a clerical error, that it's not really unconditional... that's why I found it so hard to believe, since I haven't got my IB yet! So yeah, my offer's basically the same as everyone else's- 'maintain your excellent grades.'(Original post by trappjef)

How irritating?
I actually got excited for a moment. Feeling kind of pissed at Toronto right now
I mean how do they just mistakenly send out an unconditional like that, if I hadn't been so suspicious and called to make sure then who knows I could have bombed my IB and then realized it was a conditional offer.
Well anyway thank god that's cleared out now! Edinburgh all the way, and if I miss it then Aberdeen! -
Re:Re: sorry for interrupting, but these questions of mine are bugging me a lot
UofT ,Ryerson, Waterloo, UVic, Ryerson, McMaster
my o-level grades are 2A's, 5B's
my A-level grades are A*(maths), B(chemistry),B(physics). and C(AS further mathematics)
IELTS score 7
extra curricular activities: social worker and doing an internship in an Engineering Firm.
so my question is can i get into UofT ,Ryerson, Waterloo, UVic, Ryerson or McMaster
and also i am an international student and i want to study chemical engineering -
Re: sorry for interrupting, but these questions of mine are bugging me a lotYou should be able to, Canadian universities are quite easy to get into and for internationals it's a breeze. They won't look at your O-levels that much, and your A level grades sound OK. Your chances of a scholarship are kind of low, but as for getting an offer, I'd say you have like a 95% chance for Toronto.(Original post by sam_reza)

The others you'll get in easily get in, and most likely get small- medium scholarships from all.
