Could someone help me with Question 1 from the c4 specimen paper :
    http://www.carlgauss.co.uk/PDFs/A-Le...en%20Paper.pdf
    (4-3x)^-1/2 = 4^-1/2(1-3/4x)^-1/2
    1/2(1-3/4x)^-1/2
    =1/2[1+ (-3/4x)(-1/2) + (-3/4x)^2 (-1/2)(-3/2)/2 +(-3/4x)^3 (-1/2)(-3/2)(-5/2)/6]
    =1/2[1 + 3/8x + 27/128x^2 + 135/1024x^3]
    =1/2 + 3/16x + 27/256x^2 + 135/2048x^3

C4 paper due to be taken next week has been scrapped because of fears of a security breach (they replaced it with a substitute)

Looks like it's already been posted

Very good point! Suppose it's 50:50.. not that we'll be able to tell the difference anyway even if it was a replacement.

I have a feeling this replacement paper is going to be devilishly difficult....

They should forget the replacement and give us all an A*

What if it happened this way...

A replacement paper is created in case Edexcel makes an error. So in order to "apologize", the paper would have to be made easy, right?

Don't you think they would factor this in when making the replacement paper and therefore wouldn't it be easier?

Not at all, they don't make the paper and print it all in the week before the exam if something goes wrong! They have backup ones ready, which may have been old spares they never used or the one they would have set for Jan 2013. You can't really tell whether it would have been harder or easier.

It doesn't matter how hard/easy it as as the boundaries will change accordingly, won't they?

Well I guess this is going to be my new haunt for the week. Hello again everyone who's migrated from the C3 thread!

Exactly, which is why I think it's a bit silly for people to worry about a hard or easy paper, unless they somehow do better than everyone else on easy papers and worse at hard papers.

I'm the other way round I manage to figure out the answers to hard papers, but make loads of stupid mistakes with easy papers due to rushing them

Yes but hard papers destroy my confidence in my mathematical abilities.

I did a paper last night, thought I'd beasted it..
Lost 17 marks entirely down to stupid mistakes like mixing up integration and differentiation or making controversial mathematical statements like "3 - 4 = A, A = -7"

Looking forward to midnight to get the unofficial C3 answers xD

Now to revise all of C4, which will be more bearable than I thought, due to the maths practice routine I've already been in for C3.

I meant that at the time of creation of the replacement paper itself they would factor in the fact that they would make an error(which is why the replacement is made). So, the replacement paper has to be easy.

    Just trying to be optimistic

No, what I am saying is they don't make the substitute paper after finding out about the leak. It was already made so it will just be another paper, not necessarily harder or easier.

I'm afraid that's probably not the case.

When's everyone here starting their C4 revision?
