    Maths C2 help?
    Im stuck on second part of this question

    Write down the exact values of cos1/6π and tan 1/3π (where the angles are in radians). Hence verify that x=1/6π is a solution of the equation 2cosx = tan2x

    Ive got cos1/6π= √3/3 and tan1/3π=√3

    Is it trig functions? any help would be appreciated

    I don't really understand what you mean.

    Have you tried plugging x=\frac{1}{6}\pi into the equation?

    Also, you've said that \cos\frac{1}{6}\pi= \frac{\sqrt{3}}{3}. This is not correct.

    Yes, it is a trig function.

    Remember, \displaystyle cos\frac{\pi}{6}= \frac{\sqrt3}2

    Input \displaystyle cos\frac{\pi}{6}= \frac{\sqrt3}2 \ \ and \ \ tan\frac{\pi}3 = \sqrt3 in 2cosx = tan2x , and show that both RHS and LHS are equal.

    sorry did mean cos1/6π= √3/2
    Thanks for the reply I think I was getting confused by the wording, made it sound harder than it is (I think)
