Re: AQA Government & Politics May 2012How come you think Cabinet wont come up ? Do you think civil service might come up? Which part is 'sovereignty' ? Do you mean PM's power's? I'm so confused and I'm stressing, (sorry)(Original post by Jibby122)
Unit 2!! I'm so nervous, thankfully I didn't retake unit 1, I don't think I would've lasted a minute I'm sure all did well though!
. I think it's going to be Judiciary for 25 marker personally. What about Core Exec? What do you guys think would come up? It can't be Cabinet, I think it'll be something to do with the Civil Service or Individual/Collective responsibility. But I hope it's Sovereignty, that'll be all right.

Do you happen to know what question came up on parliament and the PM core executive? thanks

'In theory, but not in practice, the powers of the modern prime minister are unlimited'

Re: AQA Government & Politics May 2012
I've got the unit 2 exam tomorrow. I'm probably gonna do the Executive (Looking over the past essay questions they don't seem too bad) and either constitution or Parliament.
For parliament what type of essays should I plan for and does anyone know any of the main points I should discuss in them. -
Re: AQA Government & Politics May 2012Just to try myself out, for the bolded question, would you:(Original post by foodnom)
'The House of Lords performs no useful role in the British political system and should now be abolished'
and
'In theory, but not in practice, the powers of the modern prime minister are unlimited'
- Outline what the House of Lords does, like scrutinising bills etc
- Explain whether you think its of use in the current system
- Outline why it could be seen as useless, like the Parliament Act etc
- Explain why it would be of use, like making sure Parliament is accountable and doesn't have complete control and give examples, both good and bad, like fox hunting etc
- Sum up the argument

Re: AQA Government & Politics May 2012i would look at the words 'abolished,' 'now' and 'no'(Original post by iamthestig)

so i would give a for and against whether their role is effective (picking up on the word 'no') and basically what you've put. But then to get the top marks I would then say perhaps they shouldn't be abolished but partly/ wholly elected
Then pick up the word 'now' and say perhaps they didn't perform any useful roles before 1999 but do now

Re: AQA Government & Politics May 2012
Am I right in thinking that the four topics for 6GP02 Governing the UK tomorrow are The Constitution, Parliament, The PM & Cabinet and The Judiciary?
I'm revising the former three this evening, which special focus on the House of Lords reform. I'm new to TSR, but understand there is a rule with discussing exams just after they've been sat. So what date/time can we begin to discuss them?
If anyone has any revision notes they would be happy to share for any of the former three topics I would really appreciate it, as i'm struggling somewhat.

That'd be great please!

Re: AQA Government & Politics May 2012
I wouldn't advise skipping any topics for unit 2 because you only get the choice of 2 questions in the exam and if one comes up on one you haven't done then you're left with no choice which is never good. Furthermore the unit 2 40 marker anything could come up. Well it's like that for edexcel anyway

SECTION A

Re: AQA Government & Politics May 2012Thanks for the advice, I'm sitting the Edexcel paper as well. I know a lot of people here on TSR think the reform of the HOL will come up, so I'm revising that and have made an advantages/disadvantages sheet. Now I'm doing codified/un codified constitution. Do you (or anyone else) have any further predications for questions?(Original post by IndiaCaitlinn)

Re: AQA Government & Politics May 2012its harder to predict with politics exams I think but my teacher is convinced something about the coalition will come up so that would be party unity/roles of pm/cabinet and relationship with parliament(Original post by Muffin Head)

For me you don't have to worry about the 5/10 marker cos its pretty much all in the source and the 25 marker and 40 marker is just learning for and against for, for example bill of rights, codified, reform, things like that
