tips on looking older?
this is a bit weird but I feel I look kind of young.. i was wondering if anyone could give me any styling/beauty tips to make myself look a bit older.
I'm 20 years old but my friends say I look about 17 and I actually hate it.
I think the problem is my face rather than anything else. I have long, straight hair (damaged from excessive dying), would getting it cut a certain way help?
I generally wear very natural makeup, not heavy at all. Maybe I should do it heavier?
I really hate how I look in photos because I look so young. It's just starting to get annoying now. -
Re: tips on looking older?I guess it's different for a female. As a female, it's perfectly fine to look young. As long as you don't look like a little child (which you don't if you look 17), I don't see what the problem is. What's the problem here, OP? What's bad about looking 17 when you're 20, as a female?(Original post by bellebrunette)
You'll be happy that you look young when you're way older! Anyway DON'T wear heavier make-up I love the natural look more people should do it. Maybe curl your hair, I don't like short hair so don't cut it off! It could be the way you dress too you know
Now if you were male, completely different story. For a young male, looking young = extremely bad, in so many ways. And the "you'll be glad to look young when you're older" is a load of rubbish. By then, a man will have a stable career, a house, a wife, nice kids and won't give a **** about his looks, by and large, because they won't matter by that age (unless you're in show business, where obviously looks will matter, but that applies to like 0.001% of men). -
Re: tips on looking older?
I'm exactly the same really, I'm 20 and people always nearly faint in shock when I tell them my age. I'm 5 foot 8 but quite skinny/small boobs which probably doesn't help but still....it makes me feel too embarrassed about disclosing my real age to people! I guess I dress like a teenager though (skinny jeans and tshirts) but I like my dress sense and wouldn't want to change that. My hair is long and straight, but I just have a total babyface. I find doing my eye makeup helps a bit, wearing mascara probably cranks me up to 17/18 and wearing a smokey eye shadow with eye liner probably takes me to a solid 18 but I'm rubbish at doing it so tend not to bother.
Facially, I don't seem to have changed since I was about 11 lol! I just hope it changes a bit soon so I don't have to get much older and get similar reactions...I find it really embarrassing too though so you're not alone!! -
Re: tips on looking older?oh snap, I'm quite tall and skinny. maybe it's what I'm wearing then... I'll try doing smoky eyes more often as well!(Original post by snapper1)

Re: tips on looking older?I personally think I look a lot younger than 17, I'd say about 15. I have a sneaky suspicion my friends are being a bit nice about how young I actually look.(Original post by LemonLizards)
Do people really look that much older from 17/18-21? Never really noticed much difference in change. Don't think I look any older than I did at 18. -

You'll be happy that you look young when you're way older!Nothing pisses me off more about this than when people say, oh you'll be thankful when you're older(Original post by Soph(:)
I'll be greatful for it when I'm actually older
Who gives a **** about when you're older, seriously? -
Re: tips on looking older?
I have the same problem.

I'll share the one tip I know that works:
If you have a round face - wavy hair somehow de-emphasises the roundness and youthfullness.
If you have an angular/thin face - straight hair emphasises it's angularness.(is that a word? angularity sounds wrong too)
So maybe get the hair straightener/ curling iron out.
