thanks
I'm sure most christians are not idiots, so I think it would be wrong in most of their opinions. -
Re: Is it wrong for Christians to get a tatoo? what are your opinions?
personally no.
i consider myself a christian, and have 2 tattoos.
one is an angel and a devil, where the angel is killing the devil. they are 2 regious figures, but i didnt get them because of who they were though, i got them because of what it symbolises to me.
i also have a red rose going through a yin yang symbol then "carpe diem" wrapped around it. again it means something to me.
im also planning a third.
but its personal preference -
Re: Is it wrong for Christians to get a tatoo? what are your opinions? There is a very specific verse in Leviticus that says you shouldn’t tattoo any part of you skin or make cuts in your flesh for the dead.(Original post by miss_sexy)
thanks
But then, have you ever read the whole chapter of Leviticus 19?
There are lots of things we are told not to do, for example verse 27 says "Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard." (Leviticus 19:27) -
Re: Is it wrong for Christians to get a tatoo? what are your opinions?Leviticus 19:26-31 deals with pagan practices and God's prohibitions against adopting those practices. In verse 28, God is warning the Jewish people about a pagan practice at funerals, where pagans would mutilate/mark themselves to appease their false gods. The pagans hoped that by cutting themselves and marking images/symbols of idols on their bodies, that they would obtain favour in the afterlife from their false gods, both for themselves and for those who just died.(Original post by ACollins)
Yes it is wrong. Leviticus 19:28 - 'Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord.'
As no one with a Christian tattoo is trying to pacify a pagan deity, it is safe to say this verse is not relevant to us. -

I don't think there's anything wrong a Christian getting a tattoo, at least as long as it's not blatantly against Christianity. Wear it with pride, OP! -
Re: Is it wrong for Christians to get a tatoo? what are your opinions?
no, in a word

break it down: a Christian is someone who follows Christ, right? someone who looks to what Jesus tells us and devotes themselves to that, Jesus never to my knowledge said anything against doing cosmetic stuff like that to your body, it's not about that stuff to him, it's about your heart and your actions towards God and others.
take this for example:
a God fearing Christian who devotes their lives to Christ and the Kingdom of heaven is living a humble life, but struggles with one thing in particular, none of us are perfect, let's say it's a lack of self confidence and showing people how much they love them. then one day they come across the scripture 'For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.' -this scripture sets them free, it really ministers to them, now why would God have a problem with them getting a reminder of that to help them?
