    Imperial
    Oxford
    Cambridge
    Durham
    St Andrews
    Warwick
    Bath
    Manchester
    Sheffield
    Bristol
    Glasgow
    Strathclyde
    Newcastle
    Leeds
    Birmingham....

    And so on.

You need to be more specific than "science" to be honest particularly as any Russell or 1994 Group, (plus a number of others not affiliated to any group), who offer a science faculty, will be competent in at least one of sciences at the very least. As for maths, the strongest four are considered to be COWI (Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick, Imperial) though there are quite a few not far behind including Durham, Bath and Manchester.

University league tables give you a rough idea of which uni is best for certain subjects (although take them with a pinch of salt), it also all depends which science you're looking to go into, for example Sheffield is ranked very highly (about 5th) in UK for biosciences, but in the 20's for physics and maths.

Probably Imperial for sciences, UCL is pretty good in some areas like neuroscience front though.

i'd say broadly, imperial. but then, it all depends on the area of biology/chemistry you want to study, what type of degree you want to do, whether you want a broad degree or a specialised one, what kind of uni you'd work best in etc etc etc.

Cambridge and Imperial. You have to be more specific than just "science", which science? maths. biology. chemistry or physics? or anything inbetween e.g. theoretical physics?

    Chemistry and Biology i think.
Cambridge is arguably the best, however you can't apply for Chemistry/biology. You apply for Natural Sciences and then you can specialize in later years by choosing the correct line of modules, in which case you will be awarded 'Bsc in Chemistry' if you pick the relevant modules etc.

I'm not sure about second best, I think that is more subjective.

York is very good for Chemistry.
And I'll be there in September so it will be even better!

That's preposterous. The fact is, different countries and different universities will teach at different rates. That's like taking a Step 3 paper and telling Chinese students that this is what one must complete in order to study mathematics and physics at respected institutions in the UK.

While technically true, it seems more like reductio ad absurdum to me.
