Anime series you thought were terrible
provide reasons if you can it makes for a more interesting thread/discussion.

Hetalia - massively racist and I couldn't see past that to make myself enjoy it (watched about 4 episodes). It might have been okay if it was self-aware, but it's not. Not that funny either, imo. Everyone has a diff sense of humour tho, I guess~

I can't really think of any others I didn't enjoy AT ALL or found unwatchable, I tend only to begin watching series after being more or less sure I'm going to enjoy it.

    Hbu~~ :red:

Angel Beats- If someone can find one original thing in that story I will be willing to give it a 10/10. Every character and every situation is so painfully generic. The only reason I watched till the end was because of the Kana Hana female lead.

    Tsukihime anime
    Wait that doesn't exist.

To Love Ru- This series taught me that all girls clothing is made with tissue paper. Combine this with the usual harem made up of generic girls and a predictably clueless male lead makes one hell of a bad show.

Familiar of Zero- Rie K tsundere, bad animation quality, nonsensical plot and fanservice

High School of the Dead- Do I really need to say why this was terrible?

No doubt I'll think of more and post them up later.

I tend to forget the terrible ones for some reason so I can't remember much (or I avoid the ones that look terrible) but I'll add the ones I manage to remember:

Black Rock Shooter- I only went into a few episodes but I just....didn't get it.

    School Days- WTF

I'd probably only really say your typical shounen jump derived series like the big three of Naruto, Bleach and One Piece. I just don't find anything interesting in such shows; the premise, world, power levels, characters, aesthetic, etc. just don't float my boat. Each one of those aren't necessarily negatives, but the complete packages in the big three just don't do it for me. While I get that these shows are basically the Dragon Ball of the late 90s and 00s, those types of shows haven't been interesting to me for well over a decade now.

Other than that, there are very few shows which I'd honestly say are terrible, I could watch porn for the characters and gripping plot. I either can't remember, or there simply aren't (m)any other shows that I dislike.

I'm assuming you've read/watched all three sufficiently enough to come to this conclusion? While they are inspired by Dragon Ball and other manga/anime of this ilk, to lump them together under one generic banner is a tad ignorant, in my opinion. When you consider how distinctive and established the world setting of each is, especially that of One Piece and Naruto, not to mention the characterisation of the former (largely due to the amount of time given), I personally think you're giving them an unfair appraisal.

As for the OP's question, I can't say I've watched anything that I would classify 'terrible', although some have come close (and this is saying something, given how much I've watched).

I actually quite liked Hetalia....it wasn't meant to be taken THAT seriously anyway. However...

Lucky star - I remember the first few episodes were just like wtf, found it pretty boring to begin with too. But I watched the whole series anyway.

Ah! My Goddess - Tried my hardest to get into this but it just never worked.

Tenjou Tenge - Pretty sure it was made by the same guy that created Air Gear. Didn't really interest me at all.

Needless - Just couldn't get into it....

Well this wont be a surprise to anyone who knows me but... k-on, you'll already know why so Ill keep this brief. :sigh: When it was airing I initially steered clear of it, but then I heard a few people mentioning it in the same sentence as beck.. so decided to give it a try. Throughout the whole damn thing they were just trying so hard to be cute and "moe" with their shallow painted on standard personalities. Since it was only 12 eps I stuck with it hoping it might improve, and it didnt. The music aspect was abandoned at the wayside, and it was clear the point of the series was just to make otaku drool. This was before moeness as the main point of a series became such a big thing.:hmpf: Id seen and liked some slice of life series even with the standard personalities. But those had better writing and humour to them.

Re: Anime series you thought were terrible
I don't even know where to start - I'm a member of a group that goes out of its way to watch something deemed "Terribad" every week - although even then I get some enjoyment out of how laughably bad some of the stuff we watch is.

For shows that stick out in my mind as absolutely terrible, the ones that jump to mind immediately are:
    K-ON! (urgh)
    Bottle Fairy (THE EYES!)
Reign the Conqueror (awful character designs)
Odin: Photon Sailer Starlight (snore - it just would not end!)
    Love Love? (creepy)
    Project ICE (pretentious)
    Black Rock Shooter (needlessly angsty)
    Dragonaut: The Resonance (BOOBS)
Guilty Crown (mainly for the wasted potential - the actual show is fecking hilarious)
    Deadman Wonderland (shambolic adaptation)

and I could probably go on for a while so I'll just stop now.

Amusedly, all of the aforementioned cited above that I've seen, I kind of enjoyed; certainly not 'terrible' in my book.

I thought, past the first episode, that Elfen Lied was pretty bad. The plot was all over the place, the characters weren't that interesting, the science fiction was absolutely horrible(made NO sense whatsoever), and the rest of the story was just meh. Probably gonna get negged, but I disliked it immensely.

I'll admit that I am being a bit harsh in saying that they're terrible as it isn't impossible to find some form of enjoyment out of those shows and to find something genuinely terrible, I'd have to hate every aspect of it. Lumping them under one banner was down to laziness, in part due to it being 1am and wanting to get to sleep through a fun little bout of food poisoning and just not wanting to go into depth about each, but:

The One Piece manga is probably the most interesting of the three, since some of the characters and world are actually quite different and quirky. The concept and setting is somewhat different. I read it up to the Alabasta arc and then stopped, though I do check the odd chapter or so here and there as a type of guilty pleasure. Honestly, I'd probably care about One Piece if it was cut down by a significant amount. Things like the time-skip were a Godsend, because it was going nowhere. Unfortunately, this isn't about the manga, it's about the anime, which I think didn't capture the same feeling as the manga and I only watched about 20 episodes or so before getting bored.

Naruto tries too hard at times to be dark and and angsty, in part due to tacking on 'depressing' backgrounds onto the characters which gets a bit tired after a while. Filler after filler in the anime, Sasuke arc after Sasuke arc in the manga and so on. It's filled with inconsistency, retcons and asspulls, such as killing people off in the village and then throwing out resurrection magic out of nowhere. Both the manga and anime are massively overrated.

Bleach from what I'd read and seen, was purely power levels and is probably the closest to Dragon Ball in terms of progression. It didn't really have anything more to it and if I want something with power levels, it's nice to have a decent level of world building around it, like with the nasuverse.

It doesn't help that the fanbases see them as infallible and any criticism is seen as some kind of personal slight. Like I said, the elements that make up each series are not bad, but the packages they come in and they way they are executed, just don't work for me.

But an opinion is an opinion after all. Nothing more. There are plenty of things that I like that I'm more than sure others do not.

Besides all of that that, I get enough of my never-ending stories out of Berserk and Gantz.

Edit: Also to add, I never really watched them out of enjoyment. I watched them to see what all the fuss was about, to give them a try, so to speak. Going in with a negative view would not have helped either, but c'est la vie.

I've actually been subjected to a fair few of them, and from what I gather, the people that are actually obssessed with anime, they are, in fact, the idiots with no grasp on reality.

Unless you can list the 'fair few' then your statement is kind of invalid.
Also, making a judgement based on an entire group of people and a medium with a huge amount of variance is just silly especially when your actual experience of it is probably tiny.

Can I ask which series you watched and why you thought they were terrible?

Im not even a big fan of anime either but you really have no idea what you're talking about.

The Lion King is great, no matter what age you are... that's probably one of Disney's strengths. Much like Studio Ghibli, their best pieces are almost timeless.

Shame it's a complete rip off of a Japanese cartoon known as Kimba the white lion.

Nobody is saying that it is, or isn't.

It doesn't change that The Lion King was one hell of a movie.
