At the moment, I'm using an AMD Athlon dual core laptop, but I'd like something that would get me comfortably through university. I'm not a computer gamer or anything like that, would the i3 suit my needs? Or would I be able to get hold of an i5 for £400 or less (if it's needed at all?)

Like I say on most threads, dell outlet is a place you should definitely take a look and consider. I got the best i5, dedicated graphics and 6Gb ram for £450 and that was a year ago!
