    Nursing @ Surrey offers 2012/13
    Hi,

I made this thread to meet other people who have accepted or are considering accepting offers from Surrey for any branch of nursing.

Well personally I have firmed an offer for a place on the Adult Nursing Degree which starts on Sept 24th of this year. Am really excited but am currently having to keep my cool as I revise for my exams and I complete my coursework.

I was wondering what localities people were hoping to get? I want to be in Guilford or Ashford.

Also wondering about immunizations; I sent off my occupational health check way back in like February and still have not been summoned to come for any immunizations (I haven't had any of the ones they asked about) so will maybe give them a call soon.

There is an occupational health centre located near the uni which will start organising health checks & immunisations around October time

I haven't had any of the injections yet either, my doctor's refused to give me them as 'I don't need them' - do you think we will have to pay for them? I'm so excited though! Im not sure about placement I would like to be in Guildford as I don't really know any of the areas! Also do you no if we stay in different accomodation when we are on placement (If our locality is far away from campus) ?

My insurance choice (Northumbria) specifically told me we will not have to pay for our immunizations and on top of that my tutor (a part-time nurse) also told me that we should get them for free. Having said that my close friend who has applied for OT says she has to pay for her immunizations but that's OT.

What I understood from my interview presentation was that we have the choice to stay on campus or move closer to our locality. Moving closer is advised if the locality is very far away and apparently your locality could be as far away as Portsmouth or Croydon. Hopefully I will be close to the campus though - fingers crossed

Thank you, so we won't need any immunizations until after we start the course?

I heard we can't sort it out until like June because that's when we get the codes but I'm not guaranteeing that's what'll happen. The bottom line is, we cannot apply until Surrey give us our codes. I also have applied for student finance got a bit confused so hope it's ok.

Has everyone decided if they will be living in halls or not? I've applied for accommodation already

Cool do you know when freshers week is? On UCAS it says my course start date is 24th September, but does that include freshers week?

I imagine freshers week will be the first week from the 24th or perhaps it will be before that. I suppose you could always email and find out but I'm sure they'll notify us.

Hey, I have firmed to study mental health nursing at Surrey starting September 2012 and just wanted to meet other people doing the course.
I was also wondering if anyone knows about placements in the first year, like do we have them because I'm going to get a car but don't know if i should get it in the first or second year, which is stopping me applying for accomodation because on campus you can't have a car!! I kind of do want to be on campus for the first year though!

Hey Emma I've applied to do mental health nursing as well! I think placements start in first year after Christmas. But I was told that if some people's placements were far away, they could move out of halls into a house closer. If not, I think that they try to give you a placements close to halls x

    Hi.

I already at Surrey. Coming up to the end of my first year - believe me it goes fast!!!

To answer a couple of your questions, you won't have to pay for immunisations and nothing will happen until you start. Your first appt will be made suring induction week and will be over oct/november. I have just had my 3rd hep B jab and on 3rd placement so it takes time anyway.

Freshers week - Healthcare courses start a couple of weeks before the rest of uni. You will have a nursing freshers week and a special freshers fair on your first day. The official freshers week started the week after we started (when our lectures started and the week before everyone else's lectures start).

You apply for your bursary when you get a letter from them with your reference number on. It is around the end of june/beginning of july. They are currently moving onto a new system (a much better one) and are in the process of moving all existing students onto it.

If you have any more questions let me know. I am adult btw and locality 1 so can help with that. I am also a mature student so haven't lived on campus or experienced much of the nightlife so pretty useless there lol.

Missed a couple of answers off.

We do have placements in first year. Ours started in the last week of jan and we are in placement pretty much until the end of the year with the odd week in uni here and there. I have had a look to see if your timetable is up yet but it isn't (you need a login to see them).

Also, although i haven't lived in halls i know from some of my cohort that the lease you will get for hall will only be up until the end of january. Then you are expected to either move to hospital accommodation or houseshare near your locality. I think only 1 member of my cohort is still living in halls.

You mentioned above that nursing students start earlier than the rest will we be told dates when we know we are going to Surrey as the one I have on UCAS is the same as another student studying sociology. Also Where is locality 1? Thank you Rachel
