Re: New Renault Megane RS... offfttt
The exterior looks nice enough but the interior of all french cars is a massive letdown. Cheap plastic and poorly fitting panels everywhere, completely the opposite of a Golf. It seems like a lot of hot Renaults have overheating issues as well - if you drive them as they are supposed to be driven, the cooling system gives out within a year.

Re: New Renault Megane RS... offftttWho wouldn't? The Megane RS is more familiar to the Golf R not the pokey GTi.(Original post by TrueUnitedFan)
this probably sounds daft, but I probably would choose this over the golf GTI
Very nice car, but quite expensive and one that I fear won't have the best residual value. You can get a lot out their at the moment for £18k, and my choice is slightly elsewhere. Hopefully be revealed on the weekend. -
Re: New Renault Megane RS... offftttDo you not think the brakes give away its sportiness?(Original post by CurlyBen)
Doesn't look too bad, but it's still fundamentally a megane. No car can be cool if you have to explain it's the sporty model! -

But the real question is... RS Megane or Focus RS.
I'd take the Focus, but it's a tough one!
I'd take the Focus ST over the Focus RS, I prefer the look of the ST and you can take it to a Ford tuning place and have an RS clutch, gearbox and turbo put in. YES PLEASE. -
Re: New Renault Megane RS... offftttSure, but when you're down the pub and your mate asks you what you're driving these days you either say 'Megane' and leave it at that or explain it's the sport model.(Original post by Friggerpants)
Do you not think the brakes give away its sportiness?
It's just not my thing I guess, to me it's a car that's been designed to be safe, sensible and easy to drive and has then been tarted up to make it a bit more exciting. To me, if you're going to buy a sporty car buy one that's designed to be one from the start. -
Re: New Renault Megane RS... offftttYou're vastly underestimating how different a RS model is from the standard equivalent. It's NOTHING like model it's based on, there's so much development and different parts in them. You really need to get a ride in one and you'll see what we mean.(Original post by CurlyBen)

The sports models of most hatchbacks have come a long way from simply "tarted up" versions now. -
Re: New Renault Megane RS... offfttt
It's still front wheel drive with a Megane floorpan and body. I'm sure it's different from the standard but it's £26k without the options (including the Cup chassis pack which you need for your red calipers!). That's near enough Elise/SLK/Z4/TT territory, or Caterham Superlight if you're feeling a bit more adventurous. Yeah, they wouldn't be top spec at that price, but I'd rather have a sportscar than a 'sporty' hatchback. Just my opinion.

Then you read it's 26 grand. You could buy a car for that! -
Re: New Renault Megane RS... offftttI'm not denying there's better cars for the money, personally I think dropping anywhere near £26k for a new hatchback is crazy! Just that they're a lot more different from the base model than was originally said.(Original post by CurlyBen)

Plus, for £26k there's a whole load of nearly new Focus RSs will all the kit just waiting for me! -
Re: New Renault Megane RS... offftttThat adds to the fun though........people underestimate your car, and then you show them a pair of clean heels.(Original post by CurlyBen)

If people see mine, I very much beleive there is no doubt it's the sporty model too....
You'll have to remind me what Marquee holds the FWD record around Nordeschleife.........Ah yes.....Renault. I beleive they know a thing or two about creating sporty cars.Last edited by Friggerpants; 14-05-2012 at 17:22.
