Re: OCR Chemistry F321 Exam. - [Next Tuesday[1+Cl+(-2x3)=0(Original post by LegendX)
So is HClO3. Chloric V acid?
cl=5 -
Re: OCR Chemistry F321 Exam. - [Next Tuesday[Scraped an A in Jan 09 got a nice solid B in Jun 09 and a high C in Jan 11 - average high B, if I get this it will make my day since I got a U in the first attempt.(Original post by Man-Utd)
so how did everyone do in past papers...what were u averaging ? -
Re: OCR Chemistry F321 Exam. - [Next Tuesday[Na : +1(Original post by salma25)
i dont understand????
Cl : +5
O : -2 x 3 = -6
total: -6 + 1 + 5 = 0
remember the oxidation state of all the atoms MUST EQUAL THE OVERALL CHARGE...so if i had SO4 (2- charge) then the total of my oxidation numbers must equal -2
....hope that helps

Re: OCR Chemistry F321 Exam. - [Next Tuesday[An A haha, but an A* would be wonderful(Original post by JoeLatics)
Same! Resitting F321 and F324, reresitting F322 (got 118 on 1st resit, but could improve that!) and obviously F325! Good luck, what do you need?

You?? -
Re: OCR Chemistry F321 Exam. - [Next Tuesday[The Roman number inbetween tells the Oxidation number (of chlorine in this case)(Original post by salma25)
i dont understand????
Hydrogen is +1 and Oxygen is -2
Since there are 3 Oxygens, the charge becomes -6
So +1-6 = -5, Now chlorine needs to cancel the charge out, so it'll be a +5.
Thats why it has a (V) which means chlorines oxidation number is +5 -
Re: OCR Chemistry F321 Exam. - [Next Tuesday[95% +(Original post by Man-Utd)
so how did everyone do in past papers...what were u averaging ?
But that means nothing, I didn't get below 92% in my January mocks and then got a B in the actual exam

Re: OCR Chemistry F321 Exam. - [Next Tuesday[-5+cl=0(Original post by salma25)
i dont understand????
add 5 to both sides
cl=+5 -
Re: OCR Chemistry F321 Exam. - [Next Tuesday[Only done two so far, Jan09 and Jun09(Original post by Man-Utd)
so how did everyone do in past papers...what were u averaging ?
Got 48/60 in the first and 50/60 in jun09
If only all the papers contained so little on bond angles
What about you? -

thanks i get it now -
Re: OCR Chemistry F321 Exam. - [Next Tuesday[NaClO3 would be +5 (V)(Original post by salma25)
thanks
soo when it asks you to state the oxidation number NaClO it be and what about NaClO3?
NaClO would be +1 (1) -
Re: OCR Chemistry F321 Exam. - [Next Tuesday[Haha I know you're joking, but don't worry! It said in the textbook that they won't ask you about theories and stuff! So glad, because I would fail that part.(Original post by LegendX)
U know what wkd be funny? If they tested the 'how w
Science works part' so by that I mean, when it asks about JJ Thomas and Mendeleev and the gang and stuff. I bet it'd be nsanely low grade boundaries then.
Around 90% at the moment. The stupid thing is, it's all my mistakes are ridiculous - I know the information. My marked past papers have "READ THE QUESTION" scribbled all over in red ink by my angry dragon-like teacher. Like, one asked about metallic bonded, so I started chatting about ionic, yunno, because I'm cool like that. My goal for tomorrow is to read the question at least twice before answering :P(Original post by Man-Utd)

Re: OCR Chemistry F321 Exam. - [Next Tuesday[dont worry...i dont think they'll ask you about the use of it ....just know that NaClO is used as a bleach andis formed when chlorine reacts with cold dilute alkalis to form NaCl + NaClO + H20(Original post by LegendX)
So what's the use if chloric v acid? Is it the same as chloric 1 acid? That it's used to kill bacteria and so why make chloric v acid? -
