Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officialwell it certainly is a part of gel electrophoresis and stuff....so i basically learnt it . its better if you learn it , not that hard though.(Original post by aqua05)
Can anyone please tell me whether or not we are suppose to know about southern blotting for unit 6? -
Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officiali didnt see it in A2 core practicals summary so i dont think we have to know it for paper 6 . although paper 6 is synoptic i dont think they'll ask about southern blotting ...(Original post by aqua05)

Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officialisnt southern blotting a part of gel elctrophoresis ? our sir taught it with that ! he said its a continuous part .(Original post by demdil)

Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officialyes it is a part but i dont think they will ask gel electrophoresis too much detailed if they ask it.. this is only what i think, i dont say i am sure(Original post by iesians)

Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officialyes im doing AS practicals too..(Original post by aqua05)
How are you guys studying for this unit? Are you going over unit 3 experiments as well? Which papers are you guys going over? Only the new syllabus ones or also the old syllabus ones as well?
i did all the new syllabus ones
i did the old ones too , they arent very similar but are certainly helpful
and then im just going over SNAB revision guide and CGP revision guide ...
i had a question .....do you know how to include a range bar in a bar chart ..?! -
Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officialtill what year did you do the old ones...(Original post by iesians)
yes im doing AS practicals too..

nope unfortunately i dont know
Do you always have to include a range are in a bar chart
Is SNAB revision guide and CGP revision guide for unit 6 -
Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officialfor range bars, you put the lowest value and the highest value above and below the mean and draw a vertical line.(Original post by iesians)

Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officialhighest & lowest values above how.. why 2 values(Original post by demdil)
for range bars, you put the lowest value and the highest value above and below the mean and draw a vertical line. -
Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officialok if values are(Original post by demdil)
for range bars, you put the lowest value and the highest value above and below the mean and draw a vertical line.
2, 3, 4, 6, 80.
then mean would be 19
and range bar would be a vertical line from 2 to 80 .? -
Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officiali did from 2003...(Original post by aqua05)
till what year did you do the old ones...
nope unfortunately i dont know
Do you always have to include a range are in a bar chart
Is SNAB revision guide and CGP revision guide for unit 6
yes, it was worth a mark in a mark scheme, so im pretty sure we have to include a range bar.
well both the guides have practicals in them ....i just go through them once.. -
Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officialyou just went through the practicals.. thats it?! or the whole revsion guide?(Original post by iesians)

Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officiali went through the practicals for unit 6 ! but i also went through the entire unit 5 because im giving that exam too .......what did you do?! i think practicals are enough for unit 6 ...?!(Original post by aqua05)

Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officialim going over all the practicals..still need to go over AS ones.. i did them a while back.. papers from 2003 onwards(Original post by iesians)

Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officialyes(Original post by iesians)
ok if values are
2, 3, 4, 6, 80.
then mean would be 19
and range bar would be a vertical line from 2 to 80 .?
.. we always draw the graphs of means .. so 19 will already be in our graph.. then we will draw a line from 2 to 80 if the data are like that
.. but error bars are only one mark, so my teacher suggests that we do them at the end of the exam if we have time as they are time consuming ..
-
Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Officialthank you so much !! xx....yup right ! well , i think they are pretty easy , just drawing a line berween lowest and highest value ..!(Original post by demdil)

Re: Biology Paper 6 (6BI08) 2012 Official
In a U tube respirometer , what is the function of the control tube ...?! my sir said it compensates for any change in temperature and pressure.......i still dont get it ?
i found this on Wikipedia :-
As changes in temperature or pressure can also affect the displacement of the manometric fluid, a second respirometer identical to the first except with a dead specimen (or something with the same mass as the specimen in place of the organism) is sometimes set up. Subtracting the displacement of the second respirometer from the first allows for control of these factors
..............what do we substract.? and why does that even matter...?!Last edited by iesians; 14-05-2012 at 09:00.
