5'8 is not tall. You're average height, get over yourself.

    P.S. I'm 5'9 and I don't consider myself tall.
5'9 is short for a guy, i'm 5'11 and am about average for my year at school, a few are up at 6'4/5 ish

5 ft 8 is fine, don't worry about it. Anything over 6ft isn't great.

EDIT: UK average height is 5'10 however this will probably rise with the next generation to maybe 5'11 due to better living standards and generally world average height increasing so there are no problems as far as I see it

Average height for a woman is about 5ft 6 in the UK :fyi:
    Er no its 5'4.

Do you have any proof thats its 5'6. I love all the people who exaggurate the average height never ever have the evidence to back it up when asked.

So I am willing believe you if you provide evidence.

What massively improved lifestyles?? Most of us eat the same diets as our parents did more or less, kids spent more time on computers and less time doing exercise then they ever did.

Chavs eating fish and chips, unhealthy school meals, Pizza, sitting on their arse in front tvs doesn't necessarily mean we're all healthier. It will grow, but not as much as people are expecting. The UK average height is still 5'9 3/4 (so 5'10). But no more than though, unless you're living in Sweden.

I'm 5'5 and I wear 6.5 inch heels, obviously it's nice to have the choice, but there's nothing wrong with being tall and you can still wear heels, just wear smaller ones?

Fair enough! A teacher once said it was 5ft 6 in class so I went with that. Looks like you're right. I'm genuinely shocked that it's 5 ft 4... I feel like some kind of giant now haha

Really? Do you have any evidence for that? A consistant number of samples to suggest that the average height has grown all of a sudden by two inches just suddenly?

Usually height increases by fractions of inches over time, as oppose to increases of multiple of inches in one go so I would interested to hear this claim.

In scandinavia the average is around 5'6 for a women, but thats scandinavia....

Why would it make a difference? People will probably say it anyway.

Too late, it'll only give you HGH gut :sigh:

But imagine if your parents had injected growth hormone into what you ate. We'd be ****ing beasts by now. Tall and beastly. :awesome:

We'd be thick, solid, tight and able to look down, literally, on those with lesser aesthetics. But I'm afraid instead of that we're manlets.

I guess everyone wants what they don't have! All my life I've been wishing I was 5'5 or more... Being at the dismal 5'2 that I am now, I get the "Oops didn't see you there!" more often that I would like Being tall is a blessing indeed, embrace it folks!

Actually, I think I'd like to be 5ft 9, something nice about reaching the minimum height for modelling.
I know this is a bit of a delayed response but I'm sure I've seen on clothing sites such as New Look and ASOS where they display the model's height some people that are below 5'9". D: I didn't know there was a minimum requirement for modeling. xD

I got scouted by a couple of modelling agencies last year, but got told that you really need to 5'9'' to get a decent amount of work, and 5'10'' for a lot of catwalk stuff, and I was a bit young to be doing commercial stuff. There are a decent few models that are 5'8'' though, kate moss for example, but generally you have to be a particularly thin model to get away with being that short, and in the modelling that means seriously thin and I wasn't really willing to lose any weight - there's no way forcing your bmi below 16 is healthy.

Very sensible of you. Food is so great, I always feel a bit sorry for models like that that have to eat practically nothing. I saw that model barbie who said she lived off fruit alone and it was one day her goal to be solar powered. Amusing but sad nonetheless.

I can't find the article I originally read but this is close enough. She said that she didn't need meat to survive but ate fruit and her ultimate life goal was to be solar powered. She looks WELL creepy...

she might die of certain vitamin and mineral deficiencies first. which will rob her of the chance to become solar powered..
