There's no point in asking this question, because everyone will learn at a different rate. I have a friend who (and I thought he was really cocky at the time) took his first lesson on his 17th birthday, booked his test for 8 weeks later, and passed. Yet my other friend didn't take a test for two years, and he failed first time anyway. Finally passed 2 years and 4 months after starting lessons. Two extremes, but I think you see my point.

well if were talking months in which i was having lessons about 5...
total time from 1st lesson till test 15 months...
i had a few months of lessons was learning with bsm in a diesel but i have a petrol so was spending the first hour of my lesson getting used to the car again so my instructor told me id be best switching to a petrol car to learn in... so i stopped lessons with him.. rather than just switching to a diesel bsm i tried with someone who would teach me in my own car... 1 lesson he made me cry (im not the crying type...) , then had the cheek to charge more because we ran over the hour and ask if id like more... um NO!
so i didnt have lessons for 9 months after that but was still driving my car
so then we finally got round to going back to bsm and he wanted me to book my test asap but around his 2 week holiday then my 2 week holiday then i got A level results then did test the week after so i actually had a month of no lessons again before my test ... not ideal but i passed 1st time with 7minors...

id warn against trying to rush it tooo much... people i know that have done this are one of two groups... nervous drivers... or they have crashed their cars .... but then there are also people like 2 friends who learnt for ages had hundreds of lessons and my god they should not have passed :|

as above person said its totally individual

It took me 9 months. I had 1 or 2 hours of lessons a week and passed my test second time.

I started taking lessons in February and passed my test on Monday on the first attempt, so 3 months.

As others have stated it depends on the person and how many lessons they are having a week as to how long it would take.

Passed in less than 4 months, but my birthdays in summer so I had a good 2 months where i blitzed through loads of lessons. Depends on the person, aptitude, lessons per week - all sorts of variables.

I started my lessons mid October. I had one a week with a month's gap over December. Passed my test in February. So, four months including the gap.

I really enjoyed it though and my instructor was fantastic. I think that definitely makes things easier.

Like everyone has said there's no way to tell how long it might take you until you've had a few lessons and can see how well you're picking it up. It took me 60hrs of tuition and about 15hrs practice in my own car. First lesson Oct 22 I think, passed May 1st so just over 6 months for me.

I started learning January 2011, and passed April 2012, but I had so much time off while learning (bad weather, hurt my foot, exams, instructor went on holiday, I went holiday, and just couldn't be bothered!) I really wasn't a natural driver though, I gave up a few times and swapped instructors, which probably all explain why I took so long

It really depends on how many lessons you have, it's taking me ages because I've had 3 different driving instructors and haven't had lessons because of exams

Part of the problem is the waiting times for tests, three months in my area. So if you fail you are essentially back to square one.

1 month (although I am a rare case haha)

My dad taught me at least 8 hours a day, everyday and I passed first time with 5 minors.

5 months and around 20 lessons in that time.

It's pretty amazing how different people are when it comes to picking up driving though. I know people who have done only 4 or 5 lessons in a short period and passed but I also know people who have had 50 or more lessons and still can't quite pick it up.
