Should parents use GPS To Track Their Children?
A new age is upon us, the phone age, more and more kids are starting to have smart phones, some of these smart phones have GPS. Would you be in favour of using GPS to track your children?

Of course this means restricting features on kids phones.

Hell no, can't imagine if my parents had gps to track me when I was younger considering the amount of times I told them I was going somewhere but went somewhere completely different.

When I was a kid, they didn't even have PCs in schools, they wheeled out crappy BBC Micros and Nimbuses for special occasions.

Within a few years, when your children are having children, or perhaps before, the technology will be widely available to any person to enable you to Lo-jack anyone almost invisibly by placing a chip into the sole of a shoe, or sewing it into the lining of a jacket.

You can bet the security services have this technology already. Right now you can buy GPS tracking stuff on eBay - something as small as a keyfob is not quite small enough to go unnoticed on a person, but the tech is getting there.

I think all mobile phones with GPS should be able to be tracked by police if needed, as I think this would help with missing person's cases- even if it only shows where the phone was left. Don't think parents should be able to stalk their children though.. that's a bit too far.

fail.... Every day i walk past london seeing what you people have done(Grafite) , and one thing is for certain "BAD PARENTING" By using this tecnology we can pin pot locations of chavs, gangs, and ASBOs. We can help children that need it and put them in prision.

You should not use it to track your children, but it is useful in emergencies - if they are under 14, you should know where they are at all times.

14 and 15 you should broadly know their whereabouts, but they are probably old enough to trust with limited independence their own safety.

Contradiction. The idea behind this is so you know where your kids are, not so you are watching there move every 1 second.

They can already trace mobile phones with a cellsite trace

I made several posts there that explains it.

I pretty much agree with this.
Using the GPS to track and locate children if needed by the police - fine, but to allow parents to follow what their child does every minute of every day is too much of an invasion of privacy for my liking.

My mum, my sister and I all use this app - life 360 - that basically lets you track your family group. But it's mostly cause we (my mum included) have a tendency to make last minute plans and forget to let anyone else know but we can usually guess by where we show up on the map.

edit: I'm not saying this is for everyone of course but we only come home and talk about where we've been/what we've been doing anyway; it's more to stop my mum worrying when no one answers the phone when she rings.

Over 18 as of a few weeks but still no.
I have overprotective parents and a boyfriend; if they'd known exactly where I was I would never have been able to go anywhere.

I guess it would be useful for really little kids in case they get abducted, but I can see a lot of parties never happening if the technology was available. Also, what's to stop crazy possessive people using it on their partners? if the technology is there it'll get abused.
