Re: Should the police have more power?Oh ok, fair enough. Just that sometimes I think people put 'social' in front of something just to sound intelligent :P(Original post by tamimi)
Hey, social crime is a very loose term that refers to crime that is not down to national/international issues. E.g. Theft, rape, burglary... et cetera. -
Re: Should the police have more power?Socially really? That's socially strange.(Original post by Guitarded)
Oh ok, fair enough. Just that sometimes I think people put 'social' in front of something just to sound intelligent :P -
Re: Should the police have more power?By 'power', do you mean more authority with the police and less of a say from the public? That could even be counter productive.(Original post by Crimmy)
many friends have had incidences where theyve been mugged, had things nicked, or been abused, and the police have done nothing, or send a criminal science unit to the crimescene... 4 months later. this has been because of people knicking bike wheels to nicking expensive power tools etc, worth thousands.
And the police dont do much at all, they just keep a record...
Anyone else sick of this, and want the police to be able to do more?
Or am I and my friends just unlucky with the police in our area? -
Re: Should the police have more power? What you've described is police either being too busy or too lazy to do anthying, not necessarily a lack of power.(Original post by Crimmy)

What you've described is police either being too busy or too lazy to do anthying, not necessarily a lack of power. -
Re: Should the police have more power?Yeah, i'm going exactly there.(Original post by silverbolt)

Re: Should the police have more power? What is the re-offending like in the U.S. compared to the U.K.? Prisons are far tougher there.(Original post by Captain Haddock)
Too bad that even the toughest prisons are worthless as deterrents and even worse at rehabilitation resulting in high rates of re-offending and that 'hard' policing almost always fosters resentment and tension rather than respect. -
Re: Should the police have more power?so what prison were you in then?(Original post by walterwhite123)
Yeah, i'm going exactly there. -
Re: Should the police have more power?I'm not the one claiming all prisons are soft.(Original post by silverbolt)
so what prison were you in then? -
Re: Should the police have more power?Bad.(Original post by walterwhite123)
What is the re-offending like in the U.S. compared to the U.K.? Prisons are far tougher there.
"As reported on BBC Radio 4 on 2 September 2005, the recidivism rates for released prisoners in the United States of America is 60% compared with 50% in the United Kingdom. The report attributed the lower recidivism rate in the UK to a focus on rehabilitation and education of prisoners compared with the US focus on punishment, deterrence and keeping potentially dangerous individuals away from society."

Re: Should the police have more power?Your point being?(Original post by walterwhite123)
I'm not the one claiming all prisons are soft.
Actually never mind - dont bother, you say one thing i say another niether of us have been in prison. So its moot
I just have a very low opinion of this country in general.
