Hey, social crime is a very loose term that refers to crime that is not down to national/international issues. E.g. Theft, rape, burglary... et cetera.
Oh ok, fair enough. Just that sometimes I think people put 'social' in front of something just to sound intelligent :P

many friends have had incidences where theyve been mugged, had things nicked, or been abused, and the police have done nothing, or send a criminal science unit to the crimescene... 4 months later. this has been because of people knicking bike wheels to nicking expensive power tools etc, worth thousands.

And the police dont do much at all, they just keep a record...

Anyone else sick of this, and want the police to be able to do more?

Or am I and my friends just unlucky with the police in our area?
By 'power', do you mean more authority with the police and less of a say from the public? That could even be counter productive.

Don't think they need more power...just more sense and a person who's down to earth running stuff at the top... haven't had one of those for a while if ever... I mean some people get months for murder whilst others get many many years for robbery?

What you've described is police either being too busy or too lazy to do anthying, not necessarily a lack of power.

Too bad that even the toughest prisons are worthless as deterrents and even worse at rehabilitation resulting in high rates of re-offending and that 'hard' policing almost always fosters resentment and tension rather than respect.
What is the re-offending like in the U.S. compared to the U.K.? Prisons are far tougher there.

I'm not the one claiming all prisons are soft.

    Bad.

"As reported on BBC Radio 4 on 2 September 2005, the recidivism rates for released prisoners in the United States of America is 60% compared with 50% in the United Kingdom. The report attributed the lower recidivism rate in the UK to a focus on rehabilitation and education of prisoners compared with the US focus on punishment, deterrence and keeping potentially dangerous individuals away from society."
