Re: If I gave you £2500 to spend on travelling..That's you...(Original post by Cheeese589)
Where would you go? What would you see? and What would you do?
There are 2 rules:
- Where ever you decide to go, it has to be for a minimum of three weeks
-The amount includes everything - All flights/accomodation/food/tickets etc.
And how is your plan of previous year. When you thought about cycling to Russia?
Удалось?

I would fly to South America, buy a cheap motorbike (bout £350) and drive through Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Colombia etc.. until I ran out of money! Sell the bike and cry the whole way back home!!
same as this -
Re: If I gave you £2500 to spend on travelling..
Alternative 1:
Go to Svalbard, see some more aurora borealis, polar bears etc., build the biggest snow fort on this planet
Alternative 2:
Go to the Congo, explore the country, visit a concert of the Orchestre Symphonique Kimbanguiste in Kinshasa (Central Africa's only symphonic orchestra), see the mountain gorilla's in the far east and one of only four active lava lakes in the world
Alternative 3:
Go to India, see cultural sides as well as slums etc., visit the rain forest at the southern slopes of the Himalaya
Alternative 4:
Visit North Korea (only possible with a state owned travel agency and under permanent surveillance) and get an impression of some kind of dystopian dictatorship
I'd probably go for Alternative 2, the Congo. For now ...

China probably, if not Canada, New Zealand, Japan etc. I think people may like this hotel in Morocco.

Re: If I gave you £2500 to spend on travelling..
Depends what I wanted from the trip.
A lot of partying, I'd say South East Asia. That budget should easily see you through a month to six weeks depending on how you spent your time. Also where you fly to, flights to Thailand have gone up massively, it cost me £350 return about 5 years ago now they're about double that. You can get to Indonesia for cheaper.
If I could save a bit more, you could take about 2 months in Central America. Spend about 2 weeks learning Spanish in Guatemala (approx $200 plus accomodation) then travelling round for the rest of your time. Maybe scuba diving in Honduras (PADI course ~ $250 including accomodation) with volcanos, lakes, interesting if a little sketchy cities on the way. Check out some of the Mayan ruins. Then head up the coast to Belize or Mexico for some laid back beaches.
There's so many other options; India, Sri Lanka, South America. I don't think I'd know where to go for.
I'd avoid spending it on going around Europe (Paris, Berlin, Rome etc.) For me most of those cities can be seen in a weekend and if you've got 3+ weeks to take out you may as well go further afield. Also comparatively Europe is expensive especially those cities mentioned. -
Re: If I gave you £2500 to spend on travelling..Ooh! I thought I'd be the first to say the Congo! Although my plan would be slightly different- fly into Rwanda, go to Nyungwe forest, cross over to Goma, see the mountain gorillas AND the lowland gorillas, fly to Kinshasa, boat over to Brazzaville, train to Pointe-Noire, travel overland into Gabon via Loango national park and then splurge the rest in Sao Tome. Although I imagine the Gabon portion alone would cost around £2500.(Original post by Sir Fox)

Alternatively, Papua New Guinea. Or possibly an Iraq and/or Afghanistan trip with Hinterland Travel.
By the way, it is not at all the case that you can only go to North Korea with a state-owned travel company. Most visitors go with Regent Holidays or (more cheaply) with Young Pioneer Tours (which is very much British-owned)Last edited by standreams; 11-05-2012 at 19:22. -
Re: If I gave you £2500 to spend on travelling..How do you have an Australian passport when you've never been there?(Original post by ehc)
Get a plane ticket to America/Canada, trek around in some whimsical wannabe road trip in true thrifty style.
Then if there's any money left try to get to Australia and live there for a while seeing as I have an Australian passport but have never been.
V idealistic, but hey.
Another option, as everyone else is mentioning too, is generally hitchhiking around Europe. -
Re: If I gave you £2500 to spend on travelling..
I have a list of places to go, people to see, and languages/cultures to learn... however since I plan on going to England for college, I'd go somewhere across the globe. So for one week each, I'd challenge myself and go to three places: India, Austrailia, and the Sahara Desert. I would just learn their culture and basics of their language so I could enjoy the stay. I would learn another dance style in India, go in the Outback/Opera House in Austrailia, and see how long I can survive in the Sahara.
Now, I must go back to reality... and it sucks lol

How do you have an Australian passport when you've never been there? -
Re: If I gave you £2500 to spend on travelling..This kind of thing looks really cool, I'm really tempted but it's such a lot of money to spend.(Original post by hothedgehog)
Either a road trip across America (honestly not sure where I'd go - it's not something I've extensively planned!) New York and Yellowstone are musts on that though. Or, I'd do some combo of Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia and that area generally... Basically, I'd get outside of Europe finally!
OP, are you actually planning on giving one of us £2500?

Re: If I gave you £2500 to spend on travelling..
go to Thailanddddd
It's really affordable to get around there, plus heard Chang Beer is having a campaign ("live like you mean it") on their fb pg - apparently giving away free tickets to thailand.
So i'd go there, then go to phuket and chill on the beach for a week!
