They are seen as quite the deviant act, however tattoos dates back to 3300 B.C. And tbh, to some people it is THE shizzle. And to some people, they either get symbolic tattoos in regards of missing someone (perhaps a died loved one), or about how far they've come.

I have to admit the activity is kinda ruined by the douches who get.. IDK.. Osama Bin Laden on their buttocks. Its fun to some people I guess.

It seems weird to me that people on here are saying "I don't like tattoos but hand and wrist tattoos are cool" when in reality they are the places decent tattoo shops are most wary of doing, as they're so visible.

I have three tattoos at the moment, I'm getting another on Tuesday. I have two on my bottom leg/ankle area, and I've just finished a piece on my thigh. My next one is on my upper back. My tattoos have being well thought out, to be honest the first two don't mean all that much to me, I just adore the design. My newest one on my thigh means a great deal to me, it marks a really tough stage of my life. Personally there are some places that I don't like tattoos, but it is each to their own. I think mainstream fashion statement tattoos (stars, tribal) are pointless, because they are going to fade out.

I also just want to raise awareness that if people did their research, looked into different artists and shops, got all the relavent books/magazines/websites and actually thought about what they were having done then they wouldn't be stuck with wonky, bad quality tattoos!

I agree!!! that's at least what I did before I got my tattoos...I somehow naturally "saw" them in places where it turns out that I can easily hide them if I need to. and 12 years later I am still happy with the tattoos, their quality, their placement, what they mean to me etc.

I love tattoos - when they are done well. I'm hoping to get my first one in a few weeks on my foot, very excited

    Exactly!
When people get their first tattoos somewhere like their wrist or neck at a poor quality then complain they don't like it, I have no sympathy. I know people with tattoos who don't even know the name of their artists!

I've mixed feelings myself.. which I will go into once I've given people a chance to submit their own votes/views in my new poll thread on attitudes towards tattoos on men and women
