Re: Are chinos chavvy? This.(Original post by s.a.u)
Only the drop-crotch, cropped ones, carrot-fit ones, and any from Ark
Normal fit chinos are fine, carrot fit and drop crotch are for mongs! -
Re: Are chinos chavvy? Are you buying straight leg chinos in a sensible colour to wear with a button up shirt and smart leather shoes and belt? If so, no.(Original post by slacker07906)
Well are they or not? I'm confused!
Otherwise yes. -
Re: Are chinos chavvy? If you're asking a forum you're obviously going to get more than one opinion on the matter.(Original post by slacker07906)

My 2 cents is that unless you're going to style them out like you're Chuck Bass, then they look ridiculously cheap and unappealing. They just scream "Ladies, I'm a tool" -
Re: Are chinos chavvy?
This is just an experiment, I'm going to tot up just how many images I can find of boy band 'One Direction' toting them.
Spoiler:Show

Regardless of whether it has become synonymous with the modern chav, it's certainly become premium douche-wear.Last edited by The Rusty Spork; 11-05-2012 at 19:10. -
Re: Are chinos chavvy? To me, they don't look chavvy! To be honest, I think they look really good on some of them!(Original post by jumpingjesusholycow)

Re: Are chinos chavvy? What, a bunch of talentless knobs who will be standing in the dole queue five years from now? Really? You'd love that?(Original post by slacker07906)
I honestly don't get the hate for One Direction! They are just 5 normal lads doing well for themselves! I would love to be in their position! -
Re: Are chinos chavvy?
Tbf, many of my university professors/lecturers wear chinos instead of jeans, and they look great with a shirt on. i think it looks more mature and adds a bit to variety i also hear they're really comfortable.
I want a few pairs myself but not the drop-crotch or elastic ankle ones, one of my mate wear them and I'm dying not to take the piss out of him everyday.

Re: Are chinos chavvy?
No, they're not. I wear Chinos and I'm not remotely a chav. It depends entirely on your taste in clothes though, but I do think some chinos looks worse than others. Carrot trousers (which are like harem pants for guys) and twisting ones get called chavvy but I wouldn't even support that cos I know a lot of preppy / indie people that like those styles. I think the thing is that some of the more ridiculous styles can look a bit pretentious or make you look like a man slag if you're wearing them with low-cut t-shirts to show off your fake-tanned pecs and have one diamond stud in your left ear. See Geordie Shore for details on how this style has been taken over by chavs. But look to Jack Wills to see how the preppy ones wear chinos. And Topman for Hipsters and Indie kids.
At the end of the day, unless you're trying to achieve a certain look, you just borrow from a variety of styles and it's all good. I think Chinos suit a lot of people so it's a good look, and a bit more interesting that everyone wearing jeans. -
Re: Are chinos chavvy? No you don't. Thats like saying you know a lot of goths who love wearing bright colours. You've just got your definitions mixed up.(Original post by willbee)

Re: Are chinos chavvy? If Preppy is to be considered posh and upper class then yes, I do. They all wear chinos with Jack Wills hoodies or A&F shirts. Standard Preppy Dress Code. It's easy to tell the Preppy kids from everyone else at uni because they're the only ones who still have some sort of clique and ideas of hierarchy in their heads.(Original post by py0alb)

I can actually see some from my window right now. There's one we call Gok Wok cos he looks like a buff version of Gok Wan. He's wearing carrot-style chinos and one of these things:

So GTFO.

That is not preppy, that is stupid little posh ****.
"Preppy" is a smart American style that originated in the 70s in East Coast US depicting a throwback to 50s Ivy League fashions. It typically features smart attire such as sports jackets, button up shirts and chinos mixed with sailing gear such as polo shirts, boat shoes and nantucket reds, the kind of thing you would wear to a lunch party in West Hampton. Its basically a smarter version of frat. It came over to the UK originally in the mid 2000s and still retains some influence today.
As a classic retro style, its about as far away as you can get from short lived modern trends such as brightly coloured or tapered chinos or anything ever worn by JLS or One Direction ever.
