Reaaally? When you go out and you see big groups of chavs walking down the street like a bunch of *****, what are they wearing? In my experience its normally dropcrotch chinos and a plunge neck t-shirt revealing their fake tanned chest.

Quote about the chavs in Newcastle:

Lads wear a uniform of scoop-neck All Saints T-shirts, drop-crotch chinos and shoes made of cloth and cardboard
I can picture them now, probably with gelled hair, fake tan, ear stud and a flimsy faux-cardigan over their repulsive t-shirt.

Well I have to agree with quite a few people on this thread. These new forms of coming Chinos are just for mainstream sheeps. It does seem that ,as i saw noted before, the group 'chavs' have spilt up into different groups. At my college all the mainstream 'cool' people wear Chinos. I would agree with py0alb that chavs have taken on these chinos too, i do see them dressed like that, though most still stick with track suits around my town.

I think we have different views on chavs tbh.... Where I live there are some real dopey mutha****as walking round with their mouthes open, stinking of weed who come from the estate.

The other people are generally quite nice.

Then if I go into a bigger town near me, I'd get the TOWIE types you're referring to but I wouldn't class these as chav's really.... I'd class them as ***** yes, poor dress sense, yes but the aforementioned council estate dwellers who cause fights in my town on a regular basis are not these people.

Yes, I can personally attest to this. There are swarms of them on nights out dripping their hair gel everywhere...

Yes, I equally hate these people, but not what I'd class as chavs.... I think LAD sums these people up (and no, that is not a compliment).

Yes, we have these spanners who look like they're advertising for burtons, but not what I know as a chav. Chavs in my area are the ones in KFC looking like they could use some vegetables, or shouting abuse at you on your way home or bottling people for no apparent reason. Not the overtanned dick heads trying desperately hard to pull girls.

As has been mentioned several times previously, it all depends on the style of them, and what you wear them with. Burberry is both "chavvy" and high fashion. If you were to wear a real burberry jumper then you'd hardly be chavvy, if you were to wear a knockoff, and a lot of classic burberry tartan, then it is largely seen as chavvy.

    This isn't chavvy:

Agree, there are also others who wear chinos who are just mainstream too, i would not class them as sheep just ones who think they are cool.

Exactly. The first ones are just middle-aged toff trousers, the second ones are cool.

Really don't understand some people's view of chavvy.

    Re: Are chinos chavvy?
It is totally dependent on the type of chinos. The chinos that most people our age wear, and the chinos which I assume are being referred to here, due to the fact you are at school, are often seen as rather chavvy, but in a much broader sense of the term chav. So they're not a tracksuit equivalent, but there are many people who would see a huge number of people as chavs, simply because they are rather mainstream. Whether or not these are chavvy is dependent on your interpretation of the term.

Personally, I wouldn't say they were chavvy, but I don't like them because they look like somebody's totally ruined a pair of what could be smart trousers by making them too skinny and wearing them around their bum, as well as having a massive drop-crotch. In my view, chinos are quite smart trousers that middle-class men wear at garden parties etc :L. However, that's probably because I have a totally idealistic view of the world, and the new types of chinos are nothing like the lovely doctors wear in my head. Though I would say that the new skinny types do look totally ridiculous if a man is 35 or something; they are most definitely a young person's item of clothing.

Also, my dad's worn chinos for as long as I can remember, so when people our age started to wear them, it just made me laugh too much.

Without all the blabber: not really, but some people will think that they are.

why do you people care so much?

i just found out now that i have 'drop crotch chinos' in dark green, which ive been wearing for nealry a year.

i saw them in primark and bought them cos i liked them.

who the **** cares? get on with your lives

you are either sheep, or are so content on being against the sheep and 'unique' and an 'indivudual' (LOL) that you''ll wear stuff just for that reason.

get over yourselves, it doesnt make you cool. you're just as bad as 'mainstream'. the thing that you are all so passionately against. jesus

At this irrational rate, every type of clothing will condemned as ''too chavy'' to wear. It tracksuits and now chinos, what next jeans? For God sake seriously, can we just move on onto more pressing concerns. Wear whatever you want! I'm at Uni and I've seen people who come from Eton and have rich parents. Who wear tracksuits and random t-shirts. What you wear shouldn't be what defines you and it should not worry you to point of making a thread on an internet forum. Ultimately yes some people will judge on what you wear, but at the same time that is their own fault not yours.

I thought they looked really good, but then one of my mate's said chinos are chavvy? I didn't know chinos were classed as chavvy...awkward!
    What is awkward about that?

Anyway, ignoring the fact that you don't know the meaning of the word 'awkward', the answer is no. People on Made in Chelsea wear them if you want proof.

    Re: Are chinos chavvy?
I have to say this thread confuses me greatly. I wear chinos and im no chav. I dont wear the drop crotch ones cause they look stupid IMO but I just think the skinny-ish ones are good for a change rather than wearing jeans. Personally its more indie/uni people I see wearing Chino's. I dunno people's ideas of chavs in here but it seems I must be out of date in that most chavs I see are still donned in tracksuits/sweat pants.

Oh and all the people saying chino's are fine if they are the boring/middle age wearing kind of just straight normal chino's. Personally I would imagine you'd have to be 50 to pull them off and also boring as sin. I just like them for a change of jeans once and a while.
