Re: Why isn't UKIP more popular? What is that?(Original post by patrickinator)
· Make the police democratically accountable, by introducing directly-elected County Police Boards who can appoint and dismiss Chief Constables. These Boards will ensure the police listen to local people when setting policing priorities rather than blindly following politically correct Home Office diktats. UKIP demands a serious return to beat policing

Re: Why isn't UKIP more popular?
Because they are a minor party participating in a system that inherently favours large parties and concentrated votes. Let's be clear, in terms of votes, UKIP are far superior to the Green Party, and yet the Greens have representation in Westminster. The reason is that Greens have isolated, concentrated support in places like Norwich and especially Brighton, whereas UKIP suffers from the same problem as the Tories, their vote is rather widely spread and not concentrated. However, unlike the Tories, UKIP are a small party with little in the way of grass roots and party infrastructure.

They aren't popular because they are a single issue party. Although they like to claim they have a wide range of policies, they don't. -

UKIP aren't a single issue party, just read the manifesto. Don't comment on things you know nothing about.
You do realise Farage, and other UKIP MEP's have openly admitted many times that if UK withdraws from the EU, UKIP will cease to exist as a political party. -
Re: Why isn't UKIP more popular?Same, I don't think they realise that:(Original post by rainbow.panda)
If it weren't for their stance on the hunting ban and gay marriage they'd probably have my vote.
- Foxes aren't these savage beasts that pro-hunting newspapers like the Daily Mail like to suggest they are, they are actually rather small and timid creatures, who only attack when they feel threatened and considering they are tiny compared to humans I cannot understand why people should be allowed to practice such sadistic 'games'
- Marriage should be a universal right not a heterosexual privelige. They probably also fail to realise that marriage was in use long before religion was, so the two are separate entities and religion has no claim to marriage.

Re: Why isn't UKIP more popular?I don't. It's not a single issue party. I follow UKIP pretty closely and I haven't heard that. Can you provide a source?(Original post by Pyramidologist)
Its a single issue party.
You do realise Farage, and other UKIP MEP's have openly admitted many times that if UK withdraws from the EU, UKIP will cease to exist as a political party.
Obviously other parties, not being dictated to by the European Commission, would be free to follow policies they wish to on withdrawal, so there might not be room for a fourth party, but I don't actually think there would be a straightforward return to what UKIP's supporters would regard as sensible policies from them so there'd definitely still be a need for UKIP. The other parties don't even have any policies in the event of withdrawal. -
Re: Why isn't UKIP more popular?Have you seen a chicken coop after a fox attack?(Original post by Tahooper)
Same, I don't think they realise that:

Re: Why isn't UKIP more popular?I was talking about humans, not chickens. I think farmers should have the right to shoot foxes if they're ruining their farm but I don't believe people should be allowed to shoot foxes to satisfy their sadistic desires.(Original post by Tamora)
Have you seen a chicken coop after a fox attack? -
Re: Why isn't UKIP more popular?I hope you have sources to back up your petty claim.(Original post by Pyramidologist)

Re: Why isn't UKIP more popular? He likes the idea of not paying tax; but has he thought about how we would bring in the necessary revenue to pay for public services or more importantly for UKip, pay off the national debt?(Original post by patrickinator)

Apologies if any personal offence was taken, none was intended - only against the mind numbing policies and their ignorance of reality.
Who claimed that Tories lowering it was better? That was a very stupid move IMO although Ukip's tax policy is beyond all manner of expected political stupidity.
Labour were right to increase tax over that time; most of their time in government was during the best and biggest boom we've ever experienced. They entered office in 1997 with a Tory inherited debt to GDP ratio of almost 42%, 6 years later in 2003 this figure had been reduced to 30%; whilst growing the economy by 37% during that same period. Taxing highly (whilst we were prosperous enough to afford it) during the boom years is basic economic sense.
You state it so simply that putting taxes up is unquestionably a bad thing, could you please explain why?
I'm glad you saved the best for last, accusing me of being a Tory haha!Last edited by Wilzman; 11-05-2012 at 17:58. -

Thank you for defending UKIP -
Re: Why isn't UKIP more popular?
Well, I would say regularly outpolling or matching the Lib dems is fairly popular for a minority party. But also you have to consider the population; for example look at what people have said about them in this thread: Most people don't have a clue about them. I have seen far more educated threads on this forum concerning UKIP, however.
Combine that with the fact that over 40% of the population appear to be content with voting for the car-crash that is Ed Milliband, and there you go. -
Re: Why isn't UKIP more popular?
What most don't know about UKIP: the party is internally split, and its MEP's only go to the EU Parliament to get as much money for themselves as they can, they are conmen, they aren't even Eurosceptics. The corruption in UKIP is regularly blogged about here: http://juniusonukip.blogspot.co.uk/

UKIP has some internal differences. It is not internally split. "Junius on UKIP" is one of several dedicated anti-UKIP sites and unfortunately this type of site exists for every party. It isn't even a feature perculiar to British politics. It's just politics! It's amazing how much attention these people pay to a party they insist is on the verge of collapse and will never win anything. As for UKIP being conmen or corrupt, you'll need a more reliable source than Junius (or UKIP v EU or Zimbio).
What will really kill UKIP off is another party convincing UKIP supporters that they are right and UKIP is wrong. They've made a very unconvincing job so far and nothing less will do.

Re: Why isn't UKIP more popular?UKIP are a failure. They spent £500,000 on their recent GLA campaign and didn't even win a single seat. Their mayoral candidate also only polled 2%. In the local elections they also had a net gain of only a single councillor.(Original post by Tamora)

They are a single issue party, and the rest of their policies are virtually identical to Conservative. The only people who defect to them are nonsurprisingly Eurosceptic Conservitives. Anyone thinking UKIP are any different in general apart from their stance on the EU than the 3 main parties is mistaken. -
