    Standard grade results, Medicine
Can I still do medicine if I get bad standard grade results?

Sadly, I doubt it as for medicine it mainly applies to your grades in 5th year which are 5 higher's at AAAAB including Chemistry at B minimum, Biology, & either Physics or Maths, which in order to be able to even sit any of these subjects in 5th year you would need 5 credit grades.
Many people I know have done amazing in school, leaving secondary with 6A's and 2 advanced higher's at B level and still were rejected for medicine at Glasgow and only one got accepted for Aberdeen, so unfortunately with bad SG results it looks bleak, but I'm sure there may be some way to pull it off, and there are always many other options.
And I'm sure your standard grade results can't be that bad, you always think they're worse than they really are! that's sure what I did and then was so relieved with my results, just don't worry!

It depends what you mean by 'bad'?

Bad to the average student would consist of 4's, 5's etc with barely any Credit grades. However for a possibly medicine applicant like yourself, I think anything below four/five 1's would put you below average with the rest of the applicants.

With that said, Standard Grades do not play that vital a role in the application process. Most Universities in Scotland will look at your Higher results and expect AAAAA/AAAAB to be accepted. In order to sit Highers your school will probably expect you to have achieved a credit pass in the subject.

I really need to you to expand on what you consider to be bad Standard Grade results and what you realistically predict you will receive. If it doesn't all go to plan and you don't receive the grades you wanted, it is not all over. If you can manage to achieve AAAAA at Higher that would still put you in a good position to apply to Medicine. (Even better if you got five A band 1's).

You could also try to get A's in Advanced Highers and get as much work experience, volunteering etc as possible!

    Good luck, work hard!

Depends on the university! Glasgow do not look at your standard grades at all. Get AAAAB in 5th year and a ukcat above their cutoff and you will get an interview. Once you get an interview they don't look at anything apart from the interview score to decide who gets in. So technically, you could do badly in your SG's, as long as you are allowed by your school to do 5 highers, and you get the results. Other universities take SG's into account and would put you at a big disadvantage, but it depends on how "bad" you are talking.

What are you expecting to get? In any case, focus on the exams right now and worry about this once you know what you get

Thanks for the replies. I'm expecting to get all credit grades but at a 1 or 2 I'm not sure and possibly a 3 in there somewhere if I'm not in luck. I've already chosen my highers and been allowed to do all my subjects at higher. I'm doing all the sciences , math and English. But I was wondering if unis actually look at your s grades for medicine. And what can I do to prepare for the ukcat?
