Foods to eat before a run?
I've started early morning running again but I am never sure what the best foods to eat are.
    Any suggestions?

Also is it best to eat before and after or just before (or just after)?

I honestly think it does not matter much. Just have something light to eat before like an apple if you are going running as soon as you get up. Not for any health benefits, just to make sure you do not get really tired very quickly when you are running.

It doesn't matter too much how you do cardio, it just matters that you do it. So I would say just do things that make sure that you actually do cardio. So running on empty stomach is just a bad idea for motivation, even though it helps burning fat immediately.

Don't eat anything to heavy, have something light, and once you finished, have a smoothie or something that will replenish your energy.

I normally eat a small portion of complex carbohydrates as it is slow releasing so good if you are going on a long jog.

So something like tuna pasta or porridge oats...not too much otherwise you'll get a stitch and its hard to run with one of those bad boys.

I went running first thing in the morning last week without eating anything and wasn't able to complete it as my legs started feeling like jelly and I felt as though I was just going to fall over, so I think it is important to have something even if it's just a banana (I had never been unable to complete a run before but this was my first morning run, I usually do it in the evenings so have been eating throughout the day).

I tend not to eat before a run, as I prefer running on an empty stomach (seems easier somehow?) but if I do have something, I normally just have a banana. I find that this is light enough that you don't need to wait for it to digest before you go running, but substantial enough that it gives you a bit of an energy boost. Some people also say that drinking some sort of fruit juice is helpful?

    Well, obviously runner beans.

(And baked beans for that special nitro effect)
